TL;DR

Our favorite swimsuit for long torsos is the Amalfi from Andie Swim. It comes in an extra-long fit and offers adjustable straps and removable cups for extra customization. For a quality swimsuit under $50, we recommend Quince’s Plunge One-Piece Swimsuit, which also comes in long sizes.

Buying swimwear—especially one-piece swimsuits—when you have a long torso can be a bit of a minefield. But you don’t need to pick wedgies or pull and tug at your swimsuit any longer, because many brands these days offer long or tall options that are super cute and will actually fit you properly.

We’ve scoured the internet to find the very best swimsuits for long torsos, either specially designed to fit your body type or so stretchy that they’ll just fit you (and your torso) like a glove. We also spoke to styling experts to get the low-down on how to shop for swimsuits when you have a long torso, so expect to see lots of adjustable straps, ruching, and other pretty and functional details among our selection.

The Amalfi One Piece from Andie is a fan-favorite among ladies with long torsos. For one, it comes in a long-torso fit—the brand says if your torso measures over 30 inches, this is the fit to get. Beyond the extra length, the shoulder straps are adjustable, allowing you to customize the tightness and bust support. You can also remove the cups if you’re not into the padding.

We love the simple design, with its classic scoop neckline, delicate straps, and medium booty coverage. What’s more, the fabric is slightly compressive to offer a slimming effect.

We’re head over heels for this Left on Friday swimsuit with a deep V, high leg cut, and cheeky coverage. It just so happens to come in about a gazillion colorways, too (though some are waitlist-only), so if you decide it’s your new favorite suit, you can always invest in a few of them.

According to Kristine Anigwe, a creative consultant, designer, and stylist, swimsuits that can be worn a bunch of different ways are a beautiful choice for those with long torsos to help balance their silhouette. Anigwe specifically recommends this sculptural two-piece from Black-owned label MBM, which can be worn in an “infinite” number of ways, according to the brand’s website. By wrapping the top around your waist, you can help break up your torso while the high-waisted, high-cut bottoms further balance you out.

What to Look for in Swimsuits for Long Torsos

  • Fabric Stretch: When shopping for swimsuits for long torsos, “definitely look at swimwear with some give!” says Emily Burnette, a wardrobe and personal stylist. “It’s important that it has stretch but fits overall, so that it doesn’t become baggy in the water.” Kristine Kilty, a fashion director and stylist, agrees, explaining that four-way stretch fabric is the way to go. “A touch of compression can help smooth and support your shape, while enhancing your natural curves,” says Kilty. Avoid styles that feel tight.”
  • Shoulder Straps: All three experts recommend adjustable straps where possible for those with long torsos, especially if you’re planning to swim or surf, or otherwise be active. “They allow you to fine-tune the fit, especially around the shoulders and bust, ensuring everything stays in place while flattering your natural proportions,” says Kilty. “Look for lightly padded straps or built-in support. These features add comfort and help prevent the straps from digging into the skin.” The stylist also loves wide straps for those with long torsos, because they help to provide added support.
  • Fit: Those with long torsos are likely to have the best luck in terms of fit when choosing swimwear from a “tall” or “long torso” range. “If you have a longer torso, it should cover your chest and bikini area properly,” says Burnette. “Regular swimwear may be cut shorter, which leads to an uncomfortable fit or not enough chest coverage.” Kilty adds that standard-sized swimsuits “can often ride up or feel restrictive” on those with long torsos.
FAQ
  • How do I tell if I have a long torso?

We don’t know about you, but we haven’t spent a whole lot of time thinking about the length of our torsos. But there are some easy ways to tell if you’re not sure whether you qualify: “If you often find that one-piece swimsuits or bodysuits ride up or feel restrictive around the midsection, it’s usually a sign of a longer torso, as most are designed with a standard torso length,” says Kilty.

Meanwhile, Anigwe shares the following guideline: “To determine a long torso, you really have to examine all the body’s proportions, but primarily the ratio between the length of the legs and torso,” she says. “If your upper body is closer to the length of your legs, you have a long torso.”

  • How do I measure my torso?

If you want to get a bit more precise with your torso length, “measure from the top of your shoulder (near the collarbone) down to your natural waist,” says Kilty. “If the measurement exceeds the standard 16-18 inches, you likely have a long torso.”

  • What swimsuit styles are most flattering on long torsos?

Women with long torsos aren’t a monolith: “You can have a long torso and be athletic, curvy, or petite,” says Anigwe. If you have a more athletic build, Anigwe suggests “an asymmetrical one-piece with a belt to create an illusion of an hourglass and cinch the waist a bit more.” If you’re more curvy, she recommends “a two-piece with a high-waisted bottom and top with great support.” And if you’re petite, she suggests “a V-cut halter two-piece.”

Meanwhile, Kilty likes the following styles for long torsos: a high-cut leg, ruching around your midsection or other detailing at the waistline, diagonal or asymmetrical ruching, and tankinis.
