I Can’t Stop Wearing This Jane Birkin-Inspired Top, Also Loved by Hailey Bieber and Sabrina Carpenter
It’s an it-girl staple.

There are a handful of images that I stumbled across on Tumblr that have not only stuck in my brain for over a decade, but have become core to my personal sense of style. Chloë Sevigny wearing a Victorian top with a mini skirt and socks. Kate Moss at the airport, wearing a shredded white tank top, the most perfect jeans on the planet, and a zebra print purse. Sofia Coppola directing Marie Antionette in a skeleton-printed sweatshirt and jean skirt.
I could also include countless iconic images of Jane Birkin, but topping the list is a photo of the actor practicing a balance beam act, wearing black ballet shoes, pink leg warmers, low-slug black undies, and a bell-sleeved top with a boat neck and dipped front.

There’s something about the outfit that scratches my brain in all the right ways. As a former aspiring ballerina, off-duty dancer style will always have a place in my heart, and this look captures it perfectly. It’s innocent and playful yet sexy, and above all, it looks really, really comfortable. So when one of my favorite clothing brands posted this photo as a reference for their new top, I knew we were in for something good. Flash forward a few months, and the top has become an essential in my closet, and I’m not alone—it’s a favorite of Sabrina Carpenter, Hailey Bieber, and Lily-Rose Depp. Ahead, everything you need to know.
The Cou Cou Intimates Rina Top

Cou Cou Intimates
Cou Cou Intimates is one of my favorite brands for elevated, cozy basics. I first fell in love with their cute pointelle pieces—the British brand is known for their ultra-comfy thongs—but they have since become my go-to for T-shirts and long-sleeve tops. I love the flattering fits, feminine details like ruffles and bows, and super soft 100% organic cotton fabrics.
The Rina top is perfectly in line with everything I love about the brand. Inspired by Jane Birkin and off-duty ballet dancers, it takes a basic boatneck, but adds some special details. Like that iconic photo of Birkin, the Rina has three quarter sleeves that flare out in a bell shape, and a dipped front. The delicate picot trim adds a ballerina-esque touch, and it comes in black, gray, baby pink, and white. Since launching in April, it’s been worn by Hailey Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, and, most recently, Lily Rose Depp.
My Review
I’ve been coveting the Rina since it launched in April, and after seeing it on all my favorite celebs, I finally gave in. Since it arrived, it’s quickly become a staple in my wardrobe, and I have not even a shred of buyer’s remorse. Like all of Cou Cou’s pieces, it’s so soft and makes me feel like I’m wearing baby clothes—the highest compliment, coming from me. I got a medium, and it fits perfectly, hitting me right at the waist, and it doesn’t pull at the bust.

Bella Cacciatore
I love basics with a little something extra, and this top fits that description perfectly. It’s so easy to toss on with truly anything—jeans and flats, a little mini skirt and boots, trousers and heels—yet it has a vintage-tinged vibe that’s so much cooler than my usual go-to boatneck. While Jane’s OG undies and legwarmer look might be a little much for the office or running around the city, this top always gives me that “’60s starlet in a ballet class vibe,” no matter what I wear it with.
