Wearable Low-Rise

If you remember the low-rise styles of the ’90s and the 2000s, you might have mixed feelings about their ongoing comeback. While you can still go especially low and let your thong peek out, we’re also seeing more low-rise jeans that sit just below your natural waist, so you won’t have to worry about showing more than you’d like.

While a lower waist may have a reputation of being risky and about fashion over function, the newer renditions can serve practical purposes, as well. As I continue searching for the right fit for my fibroid belly, the low-rise resurgence is making it easier to find jeans that fit well without feeling uncomfortable.

Ultra-Baggy

Skinny jeans will always have a place in our closets (especially due to the recent revival), but the voluminous baggy silhouette is picking up steam. We’re seeing innovative takes on these oversized styles as celebrities and other stylish types pair them with everything from crop tops to calf-grazing trench coats. When opting for baggier denim, consider sizing down to achieve the right waist fit while maintaining the desired looseness throughout the leg.

Bedazzled

When Demi Lovato hit the stage with the Jonas Brothers in a sparkling pair of gold denim, she instantly put bedazzled jeans at the top of the fall wishlist. While we can’t adorn all our denim with Swarovski crystals, investing in a sparkle-forward style (or personalizing your own) this season is a way to add some pizzazz to any silhouette. 

Ultra-Dark Washes

Deep indigo denim is always a winner, as it’s a staple that can take you from the office to errands to a late-night dinner. Thus, we’ve been thrilled to see the darkest of washes return to the forefront of denim trends. This season, the silhouettes in this popular wash range from the much-debated barrel jeans to the classic ’90s straight leg.

Pairing deep-hued denim with other classic pieces, like a white button-down or a black turtleneck, makes for an ultra-chic look with minimal effort. When rocking your ultra-dark jeans with lighter pieces, be sure to wash them solo in cold water, inside out, and with a color-safe detergent first to prevent color transfer.

Subdued Straight Leg

Straight leg jeans haven’t gone anywhere, but this fall they’re stepping into the spotlight following a few fashion cycles that were all about extremes. With the western trend staying strong, these jeans will look great with pointed-toe cowboy boots, fringe jackets, and a belt with a notable buckle. 

More Cuffed Than Ever

Intentional takes on cuffed jeans are going to be highly touted must-haves this season. The right shoe will make a difference in balancing the cuff and making your ensemble shine: We recommend opting for ballet flats, platform sneakers, or square-toe boots.

Leopard Print

Leopard denim? Say less. With this print, you can go minimalist or all-out (think: Fran Fine). This fall, cropped leopard jackets, mock turtlenecks, and trenches are everywhere and make for a great complement to these jeans. However, if you don’t want to go full animal print, styling your jeans with neutral colors like black, cream, and tan will be equally impactful.

Black Washed Denim

Faded denim has sometimes been controversial, but this season, black washed denim is making its way into our style principles. This look feels fresh and is available in a range of styles, from barrel to baggy and everything in between. Even better? The color goes with everything. 

Chocolate Brown

Chocolate brown is continuing its reign this season, making its way into denim for a slightly more lax take on the elevated neutral. The hue is endlessly versatile, and you can pair it with traditional denim, trench coats, and blazers for in-office looks. 

Groovy Flares

We hear the ’70s calling, and we’re answering the phone. From barely-there flares to completely over-the-top, you have your pick with this fall denim trend. Seek out a denim blazer for some double-denim drama, or consider a multi-hued turtleneck to add color and retro flair (pun intended here).
