The 2025 Maryland Cycling Classic is set for September 6 in Baltimore, headlined by defending champion Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) and 2023 runner-up Neilson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost). The men’s UCI ProSeries race returns for its third edition after last year’s cancellation following the Key Bridge collapse, while the inaugural Maryland Cycling Classic Women’s will debut earlier in the day on the same 28 km Baltimore County circuit.
Seven teams fresh from the Tour de France are on the preliminary start lists, joined by strong ProSeries and Continental squads. Riders will face a demanding course featuring a 900-meter climb each lap and a 550-meter cobblestone stretch through Fells Point, totaling 5,682 feet. The women will complete four laps (116 km), the men six laps (173 km).
In the men’s race, Skjelmose will be joined by US pro national road champion Quinn Simmons, with Powless supported by Colby Simmons. Jayco-AlUla returns with Michael Matthews, making his comeback from health setbacks, alongside Swiss champion Mauro Schmid and Australian champion Luke Durbridge. ProTeam Tudor Cycling is making its race debut, led by American Larry Warbasse.
The women’s field boasts WorldTour strength with EF Education–Oatly’s Alison Jackson, a Paris-Roubaix champion, and Canyon–SRAM’s Tiffany Cromwell and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. Ceratizit Pro Cycling will make its final appearance before folding, while US powerhouse squads Aegis Cycling and Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28 bring national champions and rising stars. “The international quality and diversity of this roster is exceptional,” said women’s competition manager Joanne Kiesanowski.
