Today, German wheel brand Newmen has launched the Streem G.48 CS, a carbon wheelset that supersizes the modern gravel rim. If you aren’t familiar with Newmen, the company was founded in 2016 by former Syntace engineers Michi Grätz and Fabian Merz. They hit the market fast, presenting the very first products—the super-lightweight Advanced SL X.22 carbon wheelset and an aluminum sibling, the Evolution SL X.A.25—at the 2016 Eurobike show for the 2017 season. Since then, the brand has become known for designing lightweight, highly engineered cycling components—primarily wheelsets and cockpits. Most recently in the gravel world, though, it’s been ultra-wide wheels.

The latest Newmen Streem G.48 continues that thread with a 48mm deep carbon wheelset the brand positions as a “true all-rounder” covering everything from “after-work rides, bikepacking adventures or the next gravel race.”

As expected, this is a 48mm deep wheel, but what stands out is the width. The wheelset is built around a generous 45mm external width and a 27mm inner width that Newmen states is “perfectly matched to modern gravel tyres.” To manage handling and compliance, the brand uses a “bulbous rim profile” designed to “absorb impacts efficiently” while retaining an “extremely low sensitivity to crosswinds.” The rim uses a hooked tubeless-ready bead and hides the valve inside the rim using an internal aero valve system.

At the top of the range, the Streem G.48 CS model utilizes silver decals and features a claimed weight of 1,390 grams for the set. The CS build is laced with 21 VONOA Aero Wide Carbon spokes front and rear, attached to Newmen’s FADE R CS centerlock hubs. The hubs feature standard 12x100mm and 12x142mm spacing, support XD, Shimano HG, and Microspline freehub bodies, and are rated for 60Nm of max torque. The total max system weight for the wheelset is 130 kg.

All carbon-spoke wheelsets in the lineup are hand-built at the company’s facility in Kempten, Germany, while a forthcoming steel-spoke variant will be hand-built in the Czech Republic. Perhaps the biggest attention grabber in the news, though, is the detail that Newmen plans to offer more wheel sizes. As reported by BikeRadar, 30.5- and 32-inch diameter wheels will be available “in the future.”

Pricing and availability

Neither version of the Newmen Streem G.48  is currently available. The carbon-spoked version will eventually cost £1,499 and will be available first with the steel-spoked wheelset priced at £1,250 and promised starting in spring 2027. For more information visit the Newmen website.
