The idea for Peak Performance started with two skiers from Åre, Sweden, on a chairlift. Forty years on, Peak Performance continues to define modern alpine wear by launching a limited-edition ski capsule reinventing its icons for the modern mountain. Anchored in archival design but engineered with its most advanced technologies to date, the anniversary collection ushers in the next era for the brand while paying tribute to its past.
At the center of the capsule is its pinnacle piece: the 40Y R&D GORE-TEX® Jacket and Pants — a direct evolution of the original R&D set first introduced in 1993. That pioneering design brought something genuinely new to alpine skiing: a modular 3-in-1 system that provided skiers flexible integrated insulation and a parka-style silhouette at odds with the tight-fit fashions that dominated 80s/90s skiwear. Four decades on, the principle remains unchanged – only the tools have evolved. The 40Y R&D kit is built around a custom-developed 3-layer GORE-TEX® C-KNIT™ Stretch shell. Softer, quieter and more mobile than its predecessor, the shell delivers full windproof and waterproof protection while allowing unrestricted movement on the mountain.
Thermal performance is driven by a new generation of insulation technologies. Replacing the original fleece liner, Polartec® Alpha™ active insulation delivers lightweight, highly breathable warmth that adapts to changing levels of exertion. Designed to continuously release excess body heat and moisture before they can build up, it helps maintain a more consistent microclimate during movement. Whether pushing hard on a descent or standing still on a lift, it provides reliable thermal comfort without the need to constantly add or remove layers.
Complementing this is Solarcore® insulation, an aerogel technology developed by NASA that retains its standout insulating properties, even under compression. Applied selectively to targeted zones — including the phone pocket, knees and seat — it enhances thermal performance exactly where it is needed, without introducing unnecessary bulk or restricting movement.
