Winter is beginning to show itself in the Canadian Rockies, with Banff Sunshine, Alberta, sharing images of fresh snow on its slopes as the resort prepares for the 2026-27 ski season.

“Thankful for fresh snow!” the resort posted on social media, alongside another update declaring, “Happiness is seeing snow return to our slopes.” In a separate post, Sunshine wrote that “the dive is filling in with freshies,” offering an early glimpse of the mountain turning white again.

The posts come as October snowfall reaches parts of Alberta. The Canadian government meteorology agency Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecast 2 to 4 centimeters (0.8 to 1.6 inches) for the town of Banff on October 10, while Parks Canada reported fresh snow on trails around Banff National Park the following day. The resort has not published any updated snowfall statistics on its website but snowfalls at altitude would have been higher than in town.

The fresh coating is an encouraging sight for skiers eager for the season to begin, although a dusting is only the first step toward building a skiable base. Sustained cold temperatures and further snowfall will be needed before the mountain is ready to open.

Located about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the town of Banff, Sunshine spans three mountains in Banff National Park. Its high-elevation terrain helps it maintain one of Canada’s longer ski seasons, making it a popular destination for skiers chasing winter in the Canadian Rockies.

Banff Sunshine is also counting down to the start of the season-pass period. Early-bird prices for 2026-27 Sunshine Season Passes are due to end on October 15, with prices rising afterward.
