Ace Combat 8 has become the fastest-selling game in the aerial combat series, soaring to 1 million sales since its release roughly a week ago.

Bandai Namco announced the news in a press release, highlighting that the eighth mainline Ace Combat game is also the second highest-rated one, with a Metacritic review aggregate of between 86-88 percent. Ace Combat 4 is the series leader with 89.

Incidentally, Eurogamer hasn’t reviewed Ace Combat yet but we have an appraisal in the works; apologies, it’s been a busy season.

Ace Combat was released 2nd October and quickly recorded solid player-numbers on Steam, suggesting a degree of success. But it hasn’t all been plane sailing – arf! – for Bandai Namco, with controversy surrounding the pack-in Ace Combat game The Belkan War, which wasn’t standalone on PC as it was on console, causing various related issues.

One of the big additions in this iteration of Ace Combat 8 is a full suite of live service-like online multiplayer modes, which include co-op PvE modes, PvPvE modes, and a hub area where players can meet up and chat and parade around. Have you had a chance to play it yet?
