Mark your calendars, Canadian skiers.

British Columbia’s Revelstoke Mountain Resort officially announced its opening date, set for December 5, 2026, conditions permitting. While the resort is yet to receive its first flakes of the season, cold-weather shifts are beginning to show up in the upper alpine forecasts, setting the scene for Revelstoke to receive its first flurries in the coming days.

“We’ve been looking forward to Opening Day just as much as our guests,” Executive Vice President Ryan Melnyk told TravelPulse Canada. “Between the lift upgrades and the terrain work our mountain ops team put in over the summer, it’s shaping up to be a season of great skiing, riding, and exciting events. We can’t wait to get everyone back on the hill.”

If cold temperatures cooperate and Revelstoke opens on December 4, it would beat last year’s opening date by just two days. Revelstoke typically sets its opening date for late November or early December, and opens the resort as soon as conditions allow. Last year, it was an early December snowstorm that allowed the resort to open on December 6. It had initially set its opening date for November 29, 2025, but was forced to delay a week due to a lack of snowfall. However, last year’s lack of snowfall last year turned around, and the resort finished the 2025-26 season with 347 inches of snowfall — well above the resort’s average of 257 inches.

Despite an overall strong 2025-26 season, forecasts predict 2026-27 to go the other way. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts that this year’s El Niño has an 81% chance of reaching historic strength. Historically, strong El Niño patterns push the storms further south, benefiting resorts across the western United States. In the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada, El Niño typically brings warmer temperatures, with Inland British Columbia tending to run drier.

According to Z Rankings, which has tracked Revelstoke snowfall every year since 1986, El Niño winters bring 7% less snowfall compared to typical winters, and strong El Niño winters bring 10% less snowfall than typical winters. With scientists predicting this year’s El Niño to be unprecedentedly strong, Revelstoke could see one of its lowest snowfall totals in recorded history.

While Revelstoke could see fewer flurries this season, there’s still plenty of things to be excited about this season. The Cabot Revelstoke Mountain Lodge is expected to open in 2027, featuring more than 8,500 square feet of meeting and event space, a Chop Steakhouse & Bar, a spa, and a fitness center. Revelstoke also completed cable work on its lower gondola, ensuring it runs smoothly this season once the resort opens up.

With opening day scheduled for less than two months from now, Revelstoke skiers and snowboarders can break out their skis and start doing their snow dances. When opening day finally does come, Revelstoke will open whatever terrain it can, and will open more as the season progresses. But for now, guests planning on visiting Revelstoke this season can mark their calendars for December 4.

Revelstoke will release more details on available lifts and runs in the days leading up to opening.
