Protesters camp in Madrid as housing crisis sparks anger

Updated:

Protesters have been camping at Madrid’s Puerta del Sol for a second day, demanding action over Spain’s housing crisis. The demonstration followed the eviction of an 87-year-old woman from her lifelong home last week.

Protesters say short-term tourist rentals and investment funds are contributing to rising housing costs and reducing the number of homes available to residents.

Tents have been set up in the central square as demonstrators call for measures to make housing more affordable.
