Arizona Snowbowl received an early taste of winter this week, picking up 2 inches of snow overnight on September 29.

The Flagstaff ski area shared video and photos of the fresh snow Tuesday morning, showing a wintry scene at Snowbowl despite the calendar still reading September.

“We received 2 inches of snowfall overnight & it’s only September!” Snowbowl posted on social media. “This must be a sign that a solid winter is on the way.”

While a September snowfall is no guarantee of what the 2026-27 ski season will bring, the early accumulation is an encouraging reminder that winter is on its way to Arizona’s San Francisco Peaks. The resort is located on the north side of Mount Humphreys within the San Francisco Peaks, about 20 minutes from Flagstaff, With 260 inches of average annual snowfall and 2,300 feet of vertical drop, it is the state’s premier ski and snowboard destination.

And there is already another reason to get excited. Snowbowl has officially put its 2026-27 winter lift tickets on sale, with select dates available for just $9.

Some of the $9 ticket dates also include $10 in Snowbowl Cash, which can be spent around the resort during the visit. The resort is encouraging skiers and snowboarders to check the ticket calendar and book ahead for the upcoming season.

For now, though, the focus is on that first taste of snow. Two inches may not be enough to open the lifts, but after a summer of waiting, it is a welcome sight at Snowbowl.
