Copper Mountain‘s Summer Hike Park is closing after this weekend — but not before helping the resort pull off 12 straight months of skiing and riding. On Sunday, September 6, the Colorado resort will have celebrated 12 straight months of skiing and riding — all thanks to its Summer Hike Park. While the park’s closing will leave the resort’s skiers and riders waiting for the snow to arrive, Sunday also marks an exciting milestone for the resort in its goal of keeping guests on snow throughout the year.
From September 2025 to September 2026, Copper Mountain had a way to get skiers and snowboarders on snow. Whether it was through the Summer Hike Park, preseason race training, or regular season laps, each month saw riders on the resort’s slopes. Despite Colorado’s lackluster 2025-26 season defined by warm weather and low snow totals, the resort was able to hold on, eventually reaching the impressive milestone.
The ability to ride each month in a year would not be possible without the Summer Hike Park. In the spring, as the winter ski season winds to a close, Copper Mountain knocks down its 22-foot halfpipe and preserves its snow. The resort then pushes the snow into a massive pile, which is used for the base of the hike park. Park crews continually reshape the park and change features as the snow melts to keep skiers and riders on snow for as long as conditions allow.
With Copper Mountain’s reputation as one of the best park resorts in the world, the Summer Hike Park draws in park skiers and snowboarders from all over the country to get laps and stay fresh throughout the offseason. It also plays host to a variety of camps and signature sessions, featuring brands like Vishnu, Burton, and Atomic.

This year, the Summer Hike Park lasted for 93 days, opening on June 5 and closing on September 6.
October is typically a buffer month for the resort, with the hike park closed and consistent snowfall still weeks away. But even then, Copper Mountain finds a way. Last October, the resort held race training on its upper mountain, starting the year-long journey. This October, the resort will likely have to do the same to keep the streak alive.
While the excitement of the Summer Hike Park may be coming to an end this weekend, that means that the winter season is nearly here. And, if conditions allow, the resort may even be able to keep its streak alive.

Copper Mountain is currently scheduled to open November 7, so long as conditions allow for it. Season passes are currently available on the resort’s website.
