Everything announced at Sony’s State of Play September 2026
Ghost of Yotei! Wolverine! Until Dawn 2! Final Fantasy VII Revelation!
It’s showcase time! After a packed Gamescom, Sony’s doing its own thing once more, this time giving a taste of everything coming to PlayStation 5 in the coming months and beyond. That includes a final look at Marvel’s Wolverine before its impending release, another glimpse of Zach Cregger’s promising Resident Evil movie (although that’s obviously one coming to the big screen), as well as plenty more. We’ll be updating as the show goes on…
Resident Evil
Yup, a slightly unorthodox way to start the show, but here’s a fresh peek at the Resident Evil movie, coming to cinemas on 18th September 2026.
Marvel’s Wolverine
The release of Marvel’s Wolverine is just around the corner! You only have to wait until 15th September 2026 for this gory comic book adventure to arrive on PlayStation 5. Become Logan as he fights back against the forces of Deathstrike, Omega Red and more. Sometimes he might even have a friend or two.
Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition
Whether you missed Ghost of Yōtei upon its first release or are already a fan, you might want to consider picking up the Complete Edition when it’s released on 1st October 2026 for PlayStation 5. This is because it includes Echoes of Sekigahara, a new story expansion, and Most Wanted, a combat survival mode.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance
Ascendance is the upcoming DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds. Return to the Forbidden Lands and hunt down the mysterious Elder Dragons. Can you defeat them and turn them into a fancy hat? Find out when Ascendance is released in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
We later got another look at Monster Hunter Wilds – Ascendance during the State of Play Japan segment of the showcase. This includes some words from the game’s producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto. If you’re a Monster Hunter fan, then it’s worth watching!
Metro 2039
From the realms of fantasy to the depths of the post-apocalyptic Moscow metro system, State of Play next gave us our first look at Metro 2039 gameplay on the PlayStation 5. Inspired by the book series written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro 2039 sees you battling against a new faction called the Novoreich.
Metro 2039 will be released on 4th February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Maneater 2
Maneater 2 is a wonderful reminder about why swimming is sometimes not the best of ideas, but at least you get to enjoy playing the shark! Eat humans, attack sea monsters and pull off some sick flips as one of the ocean’s deadliest predators.
Maneater 2 will be released in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Crimson Desert
Well here we are! After much chatter, we’ve got our first look at Crimson Desert’s eagerly anticipated DLC. It’s called Charting the Unknown and it’s out 15th October for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Lego Playstation
Yup, Sony’s not letting Nintendo, Atari, and Sega have all the fun. There’s an official Lego PlayStation 1 on the way, and it even has a couple of fun diaramas tucked away inside: on for Gran Turismo and another for Ape Escape. no release date yet though!
Final Fantasy Resonance
Here’s a quick look at Final Fantasy Resonance, which is both an adaptation of 2015 mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (or a bit of it at least) AND the first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy series. A demo is on the way.
Final Fantasy Resonance will be released on 22nd October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Gundam Rogue Orbit
Excited for Gundamn Rogue Orbit? Well good news: it now has a release date and is out 5th March 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. We returned to this game later on in the State of Play Japan showcase where the game’s producer, Yuya Tomiyama-san stopped by for a chat.
Hunter’s Moon
Something spooky is afoot in Hunter’s Moon, an upcoming first-persion historical narrative game. Set over the course of one night and inspired by the English witch hunts, you’ll play as a woman running through her life.
Hunter’s Moon will be released on 26th October 2026 on PlayStation 5.
Uncanyon
Uncanyon offers a mixture of exploration and puzzle-based gameplay as you venture out into a nearly forgotten world. Bring this world back to life as you journey through various ruins. (Well sometimes you’ll need to return it to ruins to progress…)
Uncanyon will be released in 2027 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
Keeper
Great news for PS5 players! Double Fine’s wonderfully weird lighthouse adventure isn’t just heading to Sony’s console – it’s out today! Keeper is also on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
Rev. NOiR
Curious about Konami’s upcoming RPG Rev. NOiR? Then have a gander at this latest trailer. This upcoming fantasy RPG (with what lots like all of the good fantasy RPG staples) will be released in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Rhapsody in Scarlet
And another one from Konami, this time taking us to the jazz-filled streets of 1920s New York, where magus Ellie Myersis on a mission promising “exhilarating combat and stack up combos with beasts and magick”. Rhapsody in Scarlet made a return during the State of Play Japan segment for this showcase when its producer, Takanori Murayama-san, stopped by to talk about the game.
Rhapsody in Scarlet is currently in developement and will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. You’ll be able to learn more about the game though during the Konami Press Start livestream on the Konami YouTube channel.
Upcoming PlayStation Plus Games

Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Does Final Fantasy VII Revelation really need an introduction? This game is the climax to the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. Here Cloud and crew will finally, hopefully, defeat Sephiroth!

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3
State of Play Japan then began with the first game being Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. Take on the roll of your favourite character and punch your way to a power level of over 9,000.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will be released in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Fate/Extra Record
Next came a look at Fate/Extra Record, here you’ll fight a variety of monsters on your quest to find the Holy Grail in this anime-styled game.
Fate/Extra Record will be released on January 28th 2027 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World
The next game was technically Monster Hunter Wilds – Ascendance, but it seemed a little bit silly to have the same game mentioned twice in the roundup so I’ve popped some extra info in its original section. After another look at Monster Hunter Wilds, the showcase moved on to Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World.
Here you’ll follow the adventures of Biana and Nera as they journey through the Kingdom of Witherwood and befriend the monsters to fight alongside them. (And sometimes merge some of them together, which I really hope isn’t painful.) If you fancy a break from the storyline, there’s also an arena mode for extra battles.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will be released on 3rd December 2026 on PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.
The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes
Well a game based around The Eminence in Shadow was definitely on my bingo card for this showcase. Though I will admit to enjoying this anime and its assets… (Should probably clarify that this is Lottie writing and not Matt.)
The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes will offer rogue-lite action when it’s released in 2027 for PlayStation 5.
Rematch Blue Lock Collaboration
Next we headed to the football pitch with a look at the Rematch Blue Lock Collaboration, which will be released on 24th September 2026 for PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X/S.
Where the Seeds Fall
It was then time to take a look at Where the Seeds Fall – the first game from developer, CygamesEdge. An action-adventure game, Where the Seeds Fall is definitely a game for people who are comfortable with heights. You’ll have to descend down the World Tree, the last refuge of humanity, on your quest to reach the surface.
Where the Seeds Fall will be released on 5th November 2026 for the PlayStation 5.
WPCA: World Phasebound Control Authority
Next we revisited another game previously shown in the showcase – Gundam Rogue Orbit. Like before I’ve popped that information in its original section. Now that game name is quite the mouthful. WPCA: World Phasebound Control Authority is set in Seoul and sees you hacking-and-slashing your way through different supernatural monsters. (For some reason I’m reminded of another game with the word ‘Control’ in its title…)
WPCA: World Phasebound Control Authority will be released in 2028 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
Stupid Never Dies
It’s time for some monster slaying action but with a twist, because, in Stupid Never Dies, you are one of the monsters! Play as a zombie and take on vampires, werewolves and more.
Stupid Never Dies is being released just in time for Halloween on 21st October 2026 (depending on your region, it may be released on 22nd October 2026) for the PlayStation 5 and PC.
SlashZero
SlashZero is an upcoming side-scrolling action roguelike game all wrapped up in some anime style. Here you’ll be able to play as a variety of different characters, allowing you to play around with different movesets.
SlashZero will be released in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
Echoes of Aincrad Genesis Maidens
If you’re a fan of Sword Art Online, then you might have played Echoes of Aincrad. If that’s the case then look forward to the DLC – Genesis Maidens – arriving in Winter 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero’s Eternal Legacy DLC
Did you enjoy Digimon Story Time Stranger? Well, good news for you! The DLC, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy is on its way. Set three years after the end of the base game, this DLC will follow a whole new protagonist and bring 50 new Digimon to the game.

Daba: Land of Water Scar is set in a world lacking water (probably where the whole ‘water scar’ thing is coming from). You’ll play as a clayman – a creature which should most definitely not be awake – and venture out into the world. This journey, of course, involves a lot of violence.
