The latest angel to enter this holy ether is the red-and-cream adidas Field Sneaker.

The Y-3 Field Sneaker is an avant-garde retooling of the OG Field Trainer model that made its debut in 2003 and largely set the standard for aughts-era runners.

Here, Y-3 blends the Field Trainer’s early-2000s shape with updated premium leather, suede, and that distinct tongue flap, which has become something of the bee’s knees where fashion sneakers are concerned.

Of Course, Wales Bonner played a large role in the aesthetic adaptation of extended and fold-over tongue flaps that, believe it or not, serve a functional purpose in covering the laces to create a smooth, striking surface during matches.
