BigXthaPlug was arrested on drug and gun charges in Texas, causing him to miss a scheduled performance at a music festival.

The country rapper, real name Xavier Landum, was arrested on Friday (August 21), the same day he was due to perform at Manitoba’s Country Rising Festival.

Landum was pulled over by the Allen Police Department and booked into the Collin County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession of less than 2 ounces, and unlawful possession of a firearm, per NBC.

He was on bail at the time of his arrest, following an arrest exactly one year ago for marijuana possession and unlawful possession of a firearm in Dallas. Organisers of Manitoba’s Country Rising Festival have said they understood fans’ “disappointment and frustration” by the rapper’s absence due to a “personal emergency.”

The Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club, where the festival is held, said they “share the disappointment and frustration felt by those in attendance,” but noted they were “serving as the host venue only” and “not responsible for the event’s programming, artist bookings, scheduling or related decisions.”

Despite the arrest, BigXthaPlug still performed last night (August 22) at the Iowa State Fair Grandstand. Shortly before his scheduled slot, he shared an Instagram story where he told fans, “I’m on my way.”

Later, he shared an Instagram post with a thumbnail of his mugshot, teasing his upcoming album with a clip of a new track.

BigXthaPlug rose to prominence in 2023 for his hits ‘Texas’ and ‘Mmhmm’, the former of which was part of his debut album ‘Amar’, written while he was in solitary confinement in jail for illegal possession of weapons and marijuana in 2022.

The rapper performed at Wireless Festival in 2025, shortly before releasing his latest and third album, ‘I Hope You’re Happy’. Before that, in 2024, he shared his second album ‘Take Care’.
