Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) soared to a spectacular victory atop The Great Orme on stage 3 of the Tour of Britain Women, moving into the overall lead of the race in the process.
The Mauritian Champion attacked from the bottom of the 2.5km finishing climb on The Great Orme and soloed to the finish.
She crossed the line 14 seconds ahead of Liane Lippert (Movistar) and 20 seconds ahead of Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco).
Le Court-Pienaar also takes the overall lead of the race, taking the green leader’s jersey from Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who placed 10th.
On an attritional, hilly stage through North Wales, Movistar did most of the work, reducing the peloton to fewer than 30 riders when the race turned towards the coast, but more riders came back on the run-in to Llandudno.
Canyon-SRAM and FDJ United-Suez set the pace on the penultimate climb on the road around the limestone peninsula, leaving around 20 riders at the foot of the finishing climb where Le Court-Pienaar went all-in to win.
“It was hard. I wasn’t expecting to come so fast into it; we almost had to brake around the corners. The plan was to go from the bottom, and I got a perfect lead-out from my teammate Letizia [Borghesi], so I’m very thankful she was here,” said Le Court-Pienaar after her victory.

“I think it was the plan to just go all-out from the bottom, and my teammate put me in the best position possible for it. Then I just had to do the best effort I could to the top.
“Today I rode for Gladys [Verhulst-Wild], my teammate, she crashed out from the race. It was really sad to have her out because we came to this race together to redeem ourselves. We crashed out together last year, and she’s my roommate, so I’m very sad she’s not here. Today was for her.
Going into stage 4, Le Court-Pienaar leads the general classification by 26 seconds over Lippert and 35 seconds over Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime).
“I think you have to never be too confident,” she said about her chances of winning the race overall.
“Last year, I had the leader’s jersey on day one and crashed out on day two. We just have to keep our heads on our shoulders and just keep doing teamwork like we’ve done for the past few days, stay positive and keep fighting until the end.”
Reduced group on final climb
Three riders did not start the stage: Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime) was ill, Karlijn Koops (O’Shea Red Chilli Bikes) had crashed in the final of stage 2, and S’annara Grove (Smurfit Westrock) had been provisionally suspended for a positive doping test during the Commonwealth Games.
Starting in Mold, Flintshire, the 104.7km stage wound its was through the hills of North Wales, including two classified climbs on its way. Although there were several attempts to get away, no breakaway could get established as the GC favourites’ teams kept a high pace, with Movistar doing the lion’s share of work throughout the stage.
Lauren Dickson (FDJ United-Suez) was first over the Moel Fodiar climb to move into the virtual lead of the QOM classification, and the continuous up and down saw many riders lose contact, whittling down the peloton over time.
A crash just before the start of the climb to Nebo took down Ricarda Bauernfeind (Lidl-Trek) and Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team L’IMAD), though both could get back to the peloton and compete in the final.
On the Nebo climb, Katrine Aalerud (Uno-X Mobility), lone escapee on stage 2, attacked from the peloton that was now down to about 40 riders, but Movistar did not let the Norwegian get away. At the top, Dickson took maximum points again and takes the QOM jersey off Steffi Häberlin (SD Worx-Protime) who had to abandon the race.
After the descent to Llanrwst, Aalerud again tried to get away and again wasn’t let go. 25.8km from the finish, Le Court-Pienaar won the intermediate sprint in Dolgarrog ahead of Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) and Wiebes, netting three valuable bonus seconds in the process
17km from the finish, a group of dropped riders came back to the peloton from behind, increasing the size of the bunch to almost 50 riders. The race then stayed together until the Marine Drive, the road around the The Great Orme headland where the penultimate climb began with 6.7km to go.
Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon-SRAM) did one last pull before handing over to her teammate Soraya Paladin, both in service of Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. 6km from the finish, FDJ United-Suez also came to the front, setting a hard pace for Dickson, before Riejanne Markus (Lidl-Trek) led the race around the headland with 4km to go.
A total of 26 riders were left in the front group going into the short descent to the foot of the finishing climb, and while Bauernfeind had brought Fleur Moors (Lidl-Trek) to the front, Borghesi was in third position with Le Court-Pienaar on her wheel.
The Mauritian Champion took the inside line through the hairpin turn into the climb and accelerated right away, never looking back until the top. Behind her, a chase group of Lippert, Femke de Vries (Visma-Lease a Bike), Wiebes, and Moors formed from which Lippert then went solo, trying to limit her time loss and finishing runner-up at the top.
Wiebes lost contact further up on the climb and finished in tenth place, 37 seconds down, while Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco) came from behind to take third place.

Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) soared to a spectacular victory atop The Great Orme on stage 3 of the Tour of Britain Women, moving into the overall lead of the race in the process.
The Mauritian Champion attacked from the bottom of the 2.5km finishing climb on The Great Orme and soloed to the finish.
She crossed the line 14 seconds ahead of Liane Lippert (Movistar) and 20 seconds ahead of Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco).
Le Court-Pienaar also takes the overall lead of the race, taking the green leader’s jersey from Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who placed 10th.
On an attritional, hilly stage through North Wales, Movistar did most of the work, reducing the peloton to fewer than 30 riders when the race turned towards the coast, but more riders came back on the run-in to Llandudno.
Canyon-SRAM and FDJ United-Suez set the pace on the penultimate climb on the road around the limestone peninsula, leaving around 20 riders at the foot of the finishing climb where Le Court-Pienaar went all-in to win.
“It was hard. I wasn’t expecting to come so fast into it; we almost had to brake around the corners. The plan was to go from the bottom, and I got a perfect lead-out from my teammate Letizia [Borghesi], so I’m very thankful she was here,” said Le Court-Pienaar after her victory.

“I think it was the plan to just go all-out from the bottom, and my teammate put me in the best position possible for it. Then I just had to do the best effort I could to the top.
“Today I rode for Gladys [Verhulst-Wild], my teammate, she crashed out from the race. It was really sad to have her out because we came to this race together to redeem ourselves. We crashed out together last year, and she’s my roommate, so I’m very sad she’s not here. Today was for her.
Going into stage 4, Le Court-Pienaar leads the general classification by 26 seconds over Lippert and 35 seconds over Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime).
“I think you have to never be too confident,” she said about her chances of winning the race overall.
“Last year, I had the leader’s jersey on day one and crashed out on day two. We just have to keep our heads on our shoulders and just keep doing teamwork like we’ve done for the past few days, stay positive and keep fighting until the end.”
Reduced group on final climb
Three riders did not start the stage: Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime) was ill, Karlijn Koops (O’Shea Red Chilli Bikes) had crashed in the final of stage 2, and S’annara Grove (Smurfit Westrock) had been provisionally suspended for a positive doping test during the Commonwealth Games.
Starting in Mold, Flintshire, the 104.7km stage wound its was through the hills of North Wales, including two classified climbs on its way. Although there were several attempts to get away, no breakaway could get established as the GC favourites’ teams kept a high pace, with Movistar doing the lion’s share of work throughout the stage.
Lauren Dickson (FDJ United-Suez) was first over the Moel Fodiar climb to move into the virtual lead of the QOM classification, and the continuous up and down saw many riders lose contact, whittling down the peloton over time.
A crash just before the start of the climb to Nebo took down Ricarda Bauernfeind (Lidl-Trek) and Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team L’IMAD), though both could get back to the peloton and compete in the final.
On the Nebo climb, Katrine Aalerud (Uno-X Mobility), lone escapee on stage 2, attacked from the peloton that was now down to about 40 riders, but Movistar did not let the Norwegian get away. At the top, Dickson took maximum points again and takes the QOM jersey off Steffi Häberlin (SD Worx-Protime) who had to abandon the race.
After the descent to Llanrwst, Aalerud again tried to get away and again wasn’t let go. 25.8km from the finish, Le Court-Pienaar won the intermediate sprint in Dolgarrog ahead of Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) and Wiebes, netting three valuable bonus seconds in the process
17km from the finish, a group of dropped riders came back to the peloton from behind, increasing the size of the bunch to almost 50 riders. The race then stayed together until the Marine Drive, the road around the The Great Orme headland where the penultimate climb began with 6.7km to go.
Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon-SRAM) did one last pull before handing over to her teammate Soraya Paladin, both in service of Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. 6km from the finish, FDJ United-Suez also came to the front, setting a hard pace for Dickson, before Riejanne Markus (Lidl-Trek) led the race around the headland with 4km to go.
A total of 26 riders were left in the front group going into the short descent to the foot of the finishing climb, and while Bauernfeind had brought Fleur Moors (Lidl-Trek) to the front, Borghesi was in third position with Le Court-Pienaar on her wheel.
The Mauritian Champion took the inside line through the hairpin turn into the climb and accelerated right away, never looking back until the top. Behind her, a chase group of Lippert, Femke de Vries (Visma-Lease a Bike), Wiebes, and Moors formed from which Lippert then went solo, trying to limit her time loss and finishing runner-up at the top.
Wiebes lost contact further up on the climb and finished in tenth place, 37 seconds down, while Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco) came from behind to take third place.

Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) soared to a spectacular victory atop The Great Orme on stage 3 of the Tour of Britain Women, moving into the overall lead of the race in the process.
The Mauritian Champion attacked from the bottom of the 2.5km finishing climb on The Great Orme and soloed to the finish.
She crossed the line 14 seconds ahead of Liane Lippert (Movistar) and 20 seconds ahead of Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco).
Le Court-Pienaar also takes the overall lead of the race, taking the green leader’s jersey from Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who placed 10th.
On an attritional, hilly stage through North Wales, Movistar did most of the work, reducing the peloton to fewer than 30 riders when the race turned towards the coast, but more riders came back on the run-in to Llandudno.
Canyon-SRAM and FDJ United-Suez set the pace on the penultimate climb on the road around the limestone peninsula, leaving around 20 riders at the foot of the finishing climb where Le Court-Pienaar went all-in to win.
“It was hard. I wasn’t expecting to come so fast into it; we almost had to brake around the corners. The plan was to go from the bottom, and I got a perfect lead-out from my teammate Letizia [Borghesi], so I’m very thankful she was here,” said Le Court-Pienaar after her victory.

“I think it was the plan to just go all-out from the bottom, and my teammate put me in the best position possible for it. Then I just had to do the best effort I could to the top.
“Today I rode for Gladys [Verhulst-Wild], my teammate, she crashed out from the race. It was really sad to have her out because we came to this race together to redeem ourselves. We crashed out together last year, and she’s my roommate, so I’m very sad she’s not here. Today was for her.
Going into stage 4, Le Court-Pienaar leads the general classification by 26 seconds over Lippert and 35 seconds over Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime).
“I think you have to never be too confident,” she said about her chances of winning the race overall.
“Last year, I had the leader’s jersey on day one and crashed out on day two. We just have to keep our heads on our shoulders and just keep doing teamwork like we’ve done for the past few days, stay positive and keep fighting until the end.”
Reduced group on final climb
Three riders did not start the stage: Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime) was ill, Karlijn Koops (O’Shea Red Chilli Bikes) had crashed in the final of stage 2, and S’annara Grove (Smurfit Westrock) had been provisionally suspended for a positive doping test during the Commonwealth Games.
Starting in Mold, Flintshire, the 104.7km stage wound its was through the hills of North Wales, including two classified climbs on its way. Although there were several attempts to get away, no breakaway could get established as the GC favourites’ teams kept a high pace, with Movistar doing the lion’s share of work throughout the stage.
Lauren Dickson (FDJ United-Suez) was first over the Moel Fodiar climb to move into the virtual lead of the QOM classification, and the continuous up and down saw many riders lose contact, whittling down the peloton over time.
A crash just before the start of the climb to Nebo took down Ricarda Bauernfeind (Lidl-Trek) and Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team L’IMAD), though both could get back to the peloton and compete in the final.
On the Nebo climb, Katrine Aalerud (Uno-X Mobility), lone escapee on stage 2, attacked from the peloton that was now down to about 40 riders, but Movistar did not let the Norwegian get away. At the top, Dickson took maximum points again and takes the QOM jersey off Steffi Häberlin (SD Worx-Protime) who had to abandon the race.
After the descent to Llanrwst, Aalerud again tried to get away and again wasn’t let go. 25.8km from the finish, Le Court-Pienaar won the intermediate sprint in Dolgarrog ahead of Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) and Wiebes, netting three valuable bonus seconds in the process
17km from the finish, a group of dropped riders came back to the peloton from behind, increasing the size of the bunch to almost 50 riders. The race then stayed together until the Marine Drive, the road around the The Great Orme headland where the penultimate climb began with 6.7km to go.
Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon-SRAM) did one last pull before handing over to her teammate Soraya Paladin, both in service of Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. 6km from the finish, FDJ United-Suez also came to the front, setting a hard pace for Dickson, before Riejanne Markus (Lidl-Trek) led the race around the headland with 4km to go.
A total of 26 riders were left in the front group going into the short descent to the foot of the finishing climb, and while Bauernfeind had brought Fleur Moors (Lidl-Trek) to the front, Borghesi was in third position with Le Court-Pienaar on her wheel.
The Mauritian Champion took the inside line through the hairpin turn into the climb and accelerated right away, never looking back until the top. Behind her, a chase group of Lippert, Femke de Vries (Visma-Lease a Bike), Wiebes, and Moors formed from which Lippert then went solo, trying to limit her time loss and finishing runner-up at the top.
Wiebes lost contact further up on the climb and finished in tenth place, 37 seconds down, while Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco) came from behind to take third place.
