CeX is reportedly opening two new stores dedicated to retro games
The first one could be coming to Birmingham city centre
UK video game retailer CeX is planning to open two new stores dedicated solely to retro physical video games, according to a report.
The exciting news – entirely unofficial and unconfirmed by anyone at the company – was shared by YouTube channel Retro Ghetto, which claims to have been tipped off by “an unnamed CeX source”.
According to the YouTuber, the first dedicated CeX retro store will be opened on Bull Street in Birmingham city centre, right next to an existing CeX outlet. In the video, Retro Ghetto claims that the new spin-off store will be named either ReX or Retro XChange.
He also says that the retro-only CeX store will open during this year’s festive period or at the start of 2027.
In the video, Retro Ghetto goes on to claim that a second “ReX” store is also in the pipeline, though he doesn’t disclose its location.
“Apparently, this is very hush hush, even amongst CeX staff. There’s people probably watching this now that work for CeX who had no idea this is happening,” the YouTuber says. “It’s taken quite a long time to get all this information together so that I could share it with you guys today. And as much as I trust my CeX source, I did want further confirmation.”

Retro Ghetto continues: “So, I’m now at a point where I’ve actually had two internal CeX sources share this information with me. And listen, ultimately, until something happens, there’s a chance it could not be happening. But I can confirm this is definitely in the works. This is definitely their intention.”
CeX’s expansion comes as PlayStation moves forward with its plan to cease producing physical video games despite a vehement backlash.
As CEX regulars will know, the chain already stocks retro games as part of its range of pre-owned video games, mobile phones, computers, DVDs, Blu-rays and consumer electronics. But these rumoured spin-off stores would be its first dedicated solely to retro physical games.
CeX opened its first store in 1992 on London’s Tottenham Court Road – a longtime hub for tech retail – and now operates nearly 400 outlets in the UK and well over 200 internationally.
