Mark Walter has agreed to sell his majority ownership stake in the Los Angeles Lakers just a little more than one year after buying it, a fascinating development with several side stories likely to continue unfolding over the coming months.
The deal will also — maybe — end the Buss family’s 47-year run as stewards of the franchise. At least that’s what five of the six Buss siblings are hoping for. They’ve voted to sell their roughly 18 percent share in the team. Since the lone holdout is Jeanie Buss, the most powerful of the bunch, the five-against-one showdown kind of feels like a coin flip.
