Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort in Australia’s state of Victoria, has announced that it will wrap up its 2026 ski season this Sunday, August 23, at 5 p.m., bringing an end to a 57-day season.

From Monday, August 24, visitors will still be able to access the resort, but ski lifts will no longer operate. Village Central restaurant will remain open through August 30, and the resort will waive entry fees beginning August 24.

Mount Baw Baw was forced to end the season after repeated periods of above-freezing temperatures and rainfall eroded much of its remaining snowpack. As of August 20, 28 centimeters (11 inches) of snow remained on the Hut Run and Old Hut, but all other runs have closed. Only two of the resort’s seven lifts are currently operating: the Hut Run Platter and Beginner Magic Carpet.

The resort opened for the 2026 season on June 27, giving skiers and snowboarders 57 days of lift-served skiing and riding before the season comes to an end.

Australian resorts have been struggling with warm temperatures and below-average snowfall throughout. New South Wales’ resorts have been hammered by torrential rain for the last 24 hours. Selwyn Snow Resort announced that it would be closed today and tomorrow, August 20 and 21, but the resort is hopeful that colder night temperatures will enable snow making so the resort can reopen on Saturday, August 22.

Despite the early finish, Mount Baw Baw will send off the season with its annual Bollywood Weekend this weekend, giving visitors one final opportunity to celebrate on the snow before the lifts stop turning for the year.
