A fan has revealed that Olivia Rodrigo showed “kindness to a stranger” by quietly paying for her final semester of college.

The anecdote was shared by content creator Jamie Causey, who recently graduated from the University of Alabama.

In a new update online, Causey recalled how the pop star once came across one of her videos and commented to wish her a happy birthday. She recalled then sharing another video later on, in which she spoke about her time being a first-generation college student and struggling with the high cost of tuition during her final semester.

Now, she has said that while she initially shared the update to raise awareness and explain what she was going through, rather than incite any pity or financial support from followers, the post caught the eye of Olivia Rodrigo, who reached out privately and offered to help alleviate the financial burden.

“She told me she loved my videos and I was a source of positivity and light for her, and she wanted to help me graduate,” Causey revealed in a video this week. “And she did.”

She also shared a screenshot of the message she received from the ‘Good 4 U’ singer, asking if she could send some money through Venmo to support her tuition, before sending over $5,000 (£3,687).

Causey also added in her latest video that she wanted to keep the kind gesture private until she finished her course, as she “didn’t want something that meant so much to become a public spectacle”.

Speaking directly to Rodrigo in the new clip, the graduate shared: “Olivia, I don’t know if you’ll ever understand how much that means to me.

“You made me feel like I belong on this platform. You didn’t owe me anything. You just chose to show kindness to a stranger. You’ve always been about giving back to others, and that’s something I’ll take with me forever.”
