Ryan Condal, the showrunner of HBO hit House Of The Dragon, has revealed he will not be making any more episodes of the show, or any other Game Of Thrones-related spin-off.

Debuting in 2022, the series is a prequel to Game Of Thrones, which concluded in 2019, and is set nearly 200 years before the events of the original show. It portrays the events leading up to the decline of House Targaryen, and the war of succession known as the “Dance of the Dragons”. The series’ ensemble cast includes Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith and Milly Alcock, and has been a ratings hit for network HBO.

Following this year’s third season, which premiered in June, it was announced that the fourth season would be the last. Now, showrunner Condal has disclosed that he plans to end his involvement with the franchise following the series’ conclusion.

Speaking to Collider, he was asked whether, once House Of The Dragon was finished, he would consider covering another era of the George R. R. Martin universe. He replied, “I have really said all I have to or need to say about dragons and Targaryens and thrones,” seemingly confirming the end of both his show and his involvement in any other Game Of Thrones-related storytelling.

Condal is not the only person associated with the franchise who has revealed they won’t return. In January Emilia Clarke said she would never return to the fantasy genre after rising to fame as Daenerys Targaryen for the entire run of Game Of Thrones. “You’re highly unlikely to see me get on a dragon, or even in the same frame as a dragon, ever again,” she told The New York Times, admitting she had a “full mental breakdown” following the end of the show.
