The band first announced the film last year

Weezer guitarist Brian Bell has confirmed that the band’s movie is “in the can” and will be arriving next year.

The as-yet-untitled film was announced by the band during their appearance at last year’s Coachella, with Rivers Cuomo telling the crowd: “We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks”. The frontman later suggested Jack Black would be involved, although this would later be denied by a spokesperson for the band.

Shortly after the announcement, a reported stated that Keanu Reeves would be the villain of the movie, which was described as a cross between Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Now, another member of the band has shared when fans can expect the film to be released.

Stereogum reports that guitarist Brian Bell was in attendance at the premiere of Green Day’s new film Nimrods on Wednesday (August 12) in Los Angeles, and when asked by local radio station Alt 98.7 if Weezer were going to make a movie, Bell said, “We already have.

“Although I’m not supposed to talk about it. But yes, it’s in the can. It’s gonna be incredible. You’ll see it in 2027.”

The news comes shortly after Weezer announced a world tour for 2026/2027, including dates in the UK, Europe, North America and Japan. The LA band will hit the road this autumn in support of their 20th studio record, ‘The Gold Album’, which is released on August 21 via Reprise/Warner.
