Matthew McConaughey performed a bluegrass cover for Ella Langley’s country song ‘Choosin’ Texas’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, winning approval from the singer herself.

The actor, a native of Austin, has a strong association with The Lone Star State. As well as being known for his distinctive Texas accent, he is a co-owner of Major League Soccer team Austin FC, and a professor at the University Of Texas. During an appearance on Fallon’s show last night (August 12), he and the host sang together on a live bluegrass cover of Langley’s 2025 hit, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US and number three in the UK.

You can watch the performance below, shared on the show’s Instagram account. Ella Langley appeared to approve, commenting “Omg” in the comments section. Fellow Country singer Afton Prater also commented: “Get this on Spotify asap”.

In April, Langley released her sophomore album ‘Dandelion’, which NME described in a four-star review as “infectious, irresistible country pop for those who dare to dream bigger”. Critic Kayleigh Watson wrote: “Despite recurring allusions to spreading her wings, starry-eyed title track ‘Dandelion’ courts the realisation that, no matter how far her career takes her from home, she is proud of and will never escape her roots.”

As for McConaughey, in January the actor trademarked his famous “Alright, Alright, Alright” catchphrase from his film debut Dazed And Confused. The Oscar-winner, had eight trademark applications approved by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in an effort to prevent them being used by AI. Among the trademarked works included “seven-second clip of the Oscar-winner standing on a porch, a three-second clip of him sitting in front of a Christmas tree, and audio of him saying ‘Alright, alright, alright.’”
