Birkenstock’s Pretty & Pink Ballet Slipper Is the Real Deal

There’s no shortage of ballet-inspired shoes circling the general shoe periphery right now, but Birkenstock’s ballet clog? Well, that’s ubër official.

While the majority of the other ballet collabs out there are inherently derivative of the dance form they seek to honor, Birkenstock’s called in some real-deal backup for this ballet-inspired clog: Repetto, the don dada of ballet shoes.

Today, the Parisian brand offers a slew of modern shoe silhouettes, but Repetto actually started out selling professional ballet shoes and dance slippers in 1947. This is what makes Repetto such a great collaborative partner for Birkenstock’s light pink ballet-inspired clog. Who knows how to do ballet-inspired clogs better than an actual ballet shoe maker?

“Ballet, but make it backless” is more or less Birkenstock’s general MO when it comes to modernized adaptations of ballet flats. It makes sense, then, that a collaboration with Repetto would follow a similar thread.

The Scala Mule draws inspiration from both Repetto’s iconic ballet flats with its satin pink upper and a standard Mary Jane with its double-strapped bows at the midfoot.

Of course, no hybrid Birkenstock’s shoe is complete without that classic corked-up footbed.

As of late, fans of easy-wearing shoes have been blessed with a deluge of kooky shoes that can be put on without so much as a forward bend. Some call it lazy; others call it innovative. Both are right in their own respects.
