‘Lord Of The Rings’ classic game gets surprise remaster – and more are on the way
A refreshed take on Xbox 360 title ‘War In The North’ is out now
An updated version of Xbox 360 classic TheLord Of The Rings: War In The North has been surprise-released – with more remasters on the way.

Originally released back in 2011, The Lord Of The Rings: War In The North is an action role-playing game with a focus on co-op combat. The game veers away from the hit movie adaptation and tells the untold story of Agandaûr, a Black Númenórean who serves the evil lord Sauron. With The Fellowship dealing with the One Ring, it’s up to you to save the day.
The Lord Of The Rings: War In The North got mixed reviews when it first launched but earlier today, a surprise remaster was released for modern consoles. The Legacy edition features a number of modern enhancements. “New and long-time fans can once again play co-op for up to three players online or two players in local split-screen while discovering quality-of-life improvements including the ability to hot-swap characters, refined enemy-target locking, improved UI/UX with the addition of Health, Mana and EXP bars for party members, a new autosave feature, gyro control support on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, 60 FPS gameplay and numerous additional bug fixes.”
Developers Aspyr, whose parent company Embracer owns the rights to The Lord Of The Rings franchise, have also confirmed War In The North isn’t the only remake in the works. According to a press release “fans can look forward to even more classic releases by Aspyr from the beloved franchise in the future!”
Earlier this year it was confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance developers are working on a brand new The Lord Of The Rings game after two attempts from Amazon were scrapped. Further details about the “open world Middle-earth role-playing game” are yet to be revealed though.
In other news, the launch soundtrack for NBA 2K27 has been confirmed, featuring tracks from EsDeeKid, Sombr, A$AP Rocky and more.
