Saturday Night Live UK is returning for a second season, with the premiere date officially announced by Sky.

The UK spin-off of the long-running US sketch comedy snow, marketed as SNL UK, debuted in March and has made headlines for its lampooning of public figures such as former Prime Minister Kier Starmer and The Royal Family. As with the American version, each week a celebrity host presents the show while also taking part in sketches alongside the regular cast, with a musical guest also playing live.

Now, broadcaster Sky has announced that the series will be returning for a second season on Saturday, September 12, and will run for an initial six episodes, with more planned for 2027. The company promised a “fresh season of unpredictable, must-watch Saturday night television.” All 11 eleven original cast members will return for the season.

Season one debuted with Tina Fey as guest host, who was a performer head writer for the US version from 1997 to 2006. Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, Jack Whitehall, Nicola Coughlan, Aimee Lou Wood, Hannah Waddingham and Ncuti Gatwa also hosted episodes. Its renewal was announced in May.

The first season included many gags that made headlines, including Wood poking fun at Sex Education and The White Lotus, and Gatwa making fun of the low viewership numbers during his time as Doctor Who (“About 12 of you watched me”, he quipped).

In May, regular cast member Ania Magliano responded to a controversial joke comparing Mark Zuckerberg to Adolf Hitler.“It’s Mark Zuckerberg, I think he’s fair game,” she told Variety. “He’s ruining a lot of people’s lives.”

The 51st season of the American version of Saturday Night Live concluded in May. The show shared the finale’s musical guest, Paul McCartney, playing two Beatles tracks with comedian Will Ferrell playing the cowbell, a reference to a famous SNL sketch.
