Primož Roglič Uncertain for Vuelta a España, Report Links Him to Lotto for 2027

Primož Roglič might not be done yet just as doubts about his Vuelta a España start continue to grow.

The four-time Vuelta winner is in talks with Lotto-Intermarché over a possible move for 2027, according to a report Tuesday by Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

The 36-year-old Slovenian is out of contract with Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe at the end of 2026, and retirement was looking likely.

Het Laatste Nieuws, citing sources from both camps, reported that discussions between Roglič and Lotto-Intermarché are underway, though no agreement has been finalized.

Rumors started flying this summer that Roglič was not going to stay with Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe after he got squeezed out by the arrival of Remco Evenepoel and the rise of Florian Lipowitz.

Pinarello Q36.5, UAE Emirates-XRG, and Movistar were linked to Roglič, but Het Laatste Nieuws reported that those teams are no longer interested.

Vuelta still unknown

Roglič also faces uncertainty over whether he will even start the Vuelta later this month.

Roglič was struck by a motorist while training in late July and missed both the Clásica San Sebastián and Vuelta a Burgos.

Those were two key warmup races for Rogla, who hasn’t raced since the Slovenian national championships in late June.

He is currently training at altitude in Tignes, but Het Laatste Nieuws reported that Roglič is still only taking on light training loads. Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe is monitoring his progress and is expected to make a final Vuelta selection after this weekend.

With compatriot Tadej Pogačar starting the Vuelta this year, it’s unlikely that even a peak form Roglič would stand a chance of victory.
