Can anybody stop Tadej Pogačar from obliterating the 2026 Vuelta a España?

That’s the question on everybody’s lips as the five-time Tour de France champion returns to the Vuelta for the first time since 2019.

Pogačar will be the absolute super-favorite over Richard Carapaz, Felix Gall, Mattias Skjelmose, and Cian Uijtdebroeks in the race for the red jersey this summer.

Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard is off the provisional startlist. The Dane’s expected absence leaves Pogačar’s own teammate João Almeida hotly tipped for the second-place finish.

Primož Roglič faces uncertainty over whether he’ll be fit to fight for a record-breaking fifth Vuelta victory. Rogla was recently struck by a motorist and is scrambling to recover.

But don’t let the possibility of a one-horse GC race put you off from tuning in to the action.

Wout van Aert, Mads Pedersen, and Matthew Brennan will be blowing up the flatter stages packed into the parcours.

Sepp Kuss, Matteo Jorgenson, Matthew Riccitello, and Kevin Vermaerke are all slated to start, ensuring the USA plays a role in the GC fight.

Racing begins in Pogi’s own home-from-home, Monaco, on August 23.

The maillot rojo will be awarded three weeks later on September 13 in Granada.

All 21 stages of the 2026 Vuelta a España will be broadcast live worldwide. Highlights packages will also be available.

Unlike at the recent Tour de France, not all stages will be broadcast from kilometer zero, so check your local schedules.

Stages will typically finish somewhere between 17:00 CET and 17:30 CET.

However, note that stage 1 around Monaco will finish at 19:30 CET. It’s also expected that the final stage into Granada will finish later, although exact timings have not yet been confirmed.
