Kathy Griffin claims Dave Grohl blanked her at the airport after Donald Trump photo scandal

She claims the pair “used to be kind of friendly” before the incident

Kathy Griffin has revealed that Dave Grohl “acted like he didn’t know me” during an encounter at an airport following a scandal involving her criticism of US President Donald Trump.

The comedian and actor caused controversy in 2017 when she made a protest video that depicted her with a fake severed head that resembled the President, who was serving his first term in office. The video drew criticism from supporters of the politician, prompting Griffin to apologise and lose hosting jobs as well as endorsements.

On the new episode of her podcast Talk Your Head Off, she spoke about an encounter with Foo Fighters frontman Grohl, saying that her “former friend” ignored her when they saw each other at an airport, something she put down to the controversy surrounding the video.

“He and I used to be kind of friendly,” Griffin said. “I ran into [Grohl] at JFK [Airport]. It was at the newsstand. I didn’t want to initiate a conversation because I was so used to celebrities not wanting anything to do with me or wanting anyone to even see them standing next to me — and telling me so. Then Dave acted like he didn’t know me. Maybe he didn’t see me, because I’m so hard to miss at a newsstand.”

She continued the story, saying that he didn’t acknowledge her even though they were “two seats away from” each other on the same plane. “I thought maybe I should go up to him,” she recalled. “I thought, no, if he’s being like this because of the Trump-head picture scandal, it’s just going to be awkward.”

“That’s why I say my ‘former friend,’” she concluded. “Still an A-plus musician, but has some issues as being the only nice dude in rock & roll. Maybe. Okay, Dave. You know you saw me.” Dave Grohl is yet to publicly comment on the story.
