Primož Roglič Hit by Driver, Throwing Vuelta a España Preparations Into Chaos

Primož Roglič revealed Friday that he was struck by a car while training and will miss both the Clásica San Sebastián and the Vuelta a Burgos ahead of next month’s Vuelta a España.

In a message shared on social media, the Slovenian star showed heavy bruising to his legs and hip.

“Got hit by a car a few days ago,” Roglič wrote. “I won’t be participating in San Sebastian and in Burgos unfortunately … not the best scenario, but it’s life, eh.”

There were no immediate details about what happened and his Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team did not have additional information.

Roglič did not reveal if he was seriously injured, but instead turned his attention on returning in time for the Vuelta, the race he has won a record four times.

“Now it’s all systems go towards La Vuelta, we work and hope things will turn around,” Roglič wrote.

The timing is another blow for the 36-year-old, who’s endured more than his share of crashes and bad luck throughout his career.

Roglič did not race this year’s Tour de France and was preparing for a run at the Spanish grand tour and a possible face-off against compatriot Tadej Pogačar.

Missing the Clásica San Sebastián and the Vuelta a Burgos means Roglič will lose two key opportunities to sharpen his form ahead of the 2026 Vuelta, which begins August 22 in Monaco.

The setback comes amid growing speculation that Pogačar could race the Vuelta for the first time since his 2019 Vuelta debut. That year, Roglič claimed the overall, but Pogačar won three stages and finished third overall.
