Primož Roglič was forced to cancel his participation in the Clásica San Sebastián and the Vuelta a Burgos due to being hit by a car in training, the Slovenian revealed on his Instagram on Friday.

The veteran racer was due to resume his season on Saturday in the Basque Country, as he completes his final build-up towards the Vuelta a España, the only Grand Tour he is racing in 2026, but showed off a huge bruise to the back of his leg as a result of the incident.

“Got hit by a car few days ago…” read a post from Roglič, who escaped largely unscathed, thankfully, and seemed confident that racing at the Vuelta and chasing a record fifth red jersey title should remain on his schedule as planned.

“I won’t be participating in San Sebastian and in Burgos unfortunately… not the best scenario, but it’s life, eh.

“Now it’s all systems go towards La Vuelta, we work and hope things will turn around!”

In his absence, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe will still have one of the strongest teams for the Clásica San Sebastián, led by Tour de France runner-up and three-time winner Remco Evenepoel, who will start on Saturday morning as the heavy favourite.

Roglič will leave Red Bull at the end of the season after three years with the German team. His full focus for 2026 has always been on the Vuelta, opting against targeting the Giro d’Italia or the Tour, and only riding 28 race days before this training incident.

Should he still take the start of the Vuelta on August 22 in Monaco, he will be one of the big favourites for the victory, that is, unless Tadej Pogačar decides to finally return to the Spanish Grand Tour, seven years after making his Grand Tour debut there. On that occasion in 2019, Roglič won his first overall title in Spain, with Pogačar taking third on GC and three stage wins.
