Genesis to reveal GV90 next month and it’ll have doors like a Rolls-Royce
► European boss details new GV90
► New flagship will have Rolls-Royce-style rear doors
► And it will come to the UK
Genesis will push its luxury aspirations further with the incoming GV90 SUV, which will become its new flagship model when it arrives in 2027.
Set to sit above its existing G90 saloon, which isn’t sold in the UK, Genesis is pushing for the lucrative luxury SUV segment with its new model, which will be revealed in August and only be offered as an EV.
Speaking to CAR Magazine, Genesis Europe managing director Peter Kronschnabl said the GV90 ‘shows what the brand can do when it comes to luxury’.
‘It’s another dimension of premium,’ he added.
The GV90 has been on the cards for some time, and was first teased by the Neolun Concept (main image)back in March 2024, with spyshots of the SUV revealing it will keep the show car’s boxy styling and vast footprint.

Kronschnabl, who joined as European boss at Genesis in 2025 after a 30-year career at BMW, added that the GV90 would also be the only car with rear-opening doors in its segment. ‘The only other brand with coach doors is Rolls-Royce. It will be a real USP [in its class],’ he added.
The MD also confirmed that the GV90 would be sold in the UK, though acknowledged that the ‘numbers will be small’.
It will form an important part of a new Genesis product strategy that has been somewhat lacking in recent years. Hyundai’s premium arm launched in the UK with a flurry of models in 2021 and 2022, but since then very little has happened on the product front since, bar a few small facelifts.
Ahead of the GV90’s launch in 2027 will be the new GV60 Magma later in 2026, which kickstarts the firm’s performance division, an important moment for the brand.

Kronschnabl said: ‘When you talk about premium you have different bookends. We don’t want to exclude a very important customer group in premium who are looking for performance. Magma is a further development of Genesis in one direction.’
While Genesis has phased out all its ICE models in the UK, and currently only sells EVs, it will soon reintroduce hybrids as an important future pillar.
Kronschnabl said Genesis would launch its first hybrid at the end of 2027 – expected to be in the mid-size GV70 SUV – and that ‘electric range extenders would follow later on’.
‘We won’t go back to pure ICE engines anymore, but we will offer more powertrains.’

Europe remains a struggle for Genesis, though. It’s recently expanded on its three initial European markets – Germany, Switzerland and the UK – with Italy, France and the Netherlands with more to follow in 2027, but it has no plans to be present in all markets across the region.
It sold just 2,500 cars in Europe in 2025, and has a somewhat reserved target of selling 12,500 cars by 2030.
Asked what Genesis would like to have achieved in two years’ time, Kronschnabl said he’d like Genesis to be a ‘known brand in Europe’.
‘I’d like that we have a few of these pinnacle lighthouses, I’d like that we made Magma successful as a performance brand and in our market expansion I’d have liked us to have done our minimum 10 markets by then and on a sustainable growth path with our retailers.’
