How CADEX Shaved 70 Grams Off the Aero Integrated Handlebar

The challenge with the newly redesigned CADEX Aero Integrated Handlebar is that the outgoing model was already a spectacular piece. I should know—that’s not coming from marketing, but rather my own experience using it.

CADEX benefits from Giant’s carbon manufacturing expertise, and both the previous generation of this bar and the CADEX Race Integrated Handlebar utilize a true single-piece design. While not completely unique, most carbon cockpits bond separate sections for the tops and drops together. That approach is easier to manufacture but adds unnecessary weight. By molding the bar as a single continuous piece, CADEX eliminates the excess material required for bonding, shedding weight while increasing structural strength.

For better or worse, that specific manufacturing technique isn’t new to the brand. With this updated cockpit, CADEX shaved 70 grams to hit a claimed weight of 255g (400mm x 110mm bar), but the bulk of that savings likely comes from the revised shape. The tops are no longer as deep, which aligns with modern aero cockpit trends, and the Di2 sprint shifter cutouts have been eliminated. Those two physical changes alone likely account for the 70-gram weight loss. To support the revised shape, CADEX also introduced an updated out-front mount to better accommodate larger bike computers.

That leaves the geometry as the actual update. CADEX introduced a 6.5-degree forward sweep on the tops to naturally force a narrower, more efficient rider profile. While the 72mm reach and compact 125mm drop carry over unchanged from the previous generation, the flare has been increased. While before a 400mm center-to-center measurement at the drops corresponded to a 380mm measurement at the controls, it has now been dropped to 370mm. It is likely both lighter and more aero because it puts the rider in a more aerodynamic position with less material needed.

Pricing and availability

While the updated handlebar carries a $50 price increase in the US market, it is not currently available for stateside purchase.
