Security cameras spotted two hooded men trying to break into the property in Esplugues de Llobregat but they fled before police arrived.
The home of Spanish player Lamine Yamal in Barcelona was the scene of an attempted burglary in the early hours of Wednesday morning, just after Spain triumphed against France in the World Cup semi-finals in Texas.
The house break-in ultimately failed thanks to the swift response of Yamal’s private security team.
The security guards spotted two hooded individuals on CCTV who had climbed up to the perimeter wall of the property.
On realising they had been seen, both fled the scene before the arrival of the Catalan police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, who were alerted immediately.
Police are now analysing the images captured by the video-surveillance system in an effort to identify the suspects.
The incident comes against a backdrop of several recent burglaries in the same residential development and of the activity of organised gangs operating in various European countries, targeting footballers’ homes because of the high value of the jewellery and watches they tend to keep there, including some of the pieces the FC Barcelona player has shown on his social media accounts.
The mansion, known for having previously belonged to Gerard Piqué and Shakira, is thus back in the spotlight after the Spain international showed it off publicly shortly before heading to the World Cup.
