Red Bull Insists It’s All Rosy at the Tour de France after Evenepoel Lashes out at Lipowitz

The footage is in: there’s no beef between Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz at the Tour de France.

Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe moved fast to present a united front between its two co-leaders Friday after Evenepoel threw shade at Lipowitz in the aftermath of Thursday’s stage.

Evenepoel had gotten spicy with his teammate after Tadej Pogačar blew the race apart in the Pyrénées.

“I asked for a lead-out and didn’t get one,” Evenepoel said Thursday. “I was angry, and rightly so.

“In the Volta a Catalunya, I led the way for him [i.e., Lipowitz] for 30 kilometers. I asked him to lead for one kilometer, but that didn’t happen. That made me angry,” Evenepoel said after Thursday’s mountain stage.

It was an outburst that no doubt proved worrisome for the Red Bull-Bora-Hansghrohe P.R. machine.

Its debut as a bona-fide Tour de France superteam was going off the rails before the first rest day.

Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe posted a reel to Instagram ahead of stage 7 on Friday to make it clear – Remco and Lipo are chill.

“We’re all good. You speak, and you forget,” Evenepoel said in a video filmed on the team bus.

“Yes, yes. Fourth for me, sixth for Lipo, that’s pretty good,” Evenepoel said Friday. “There were still two guys a bit in front, but we came in with all the other favorites for the podium, so that’s a good day for us.

“The first mountain stage is always special, but we managed to do it well.”

Lipowitz concurred.

“We can be happy with yesterday,” he said.

Red Bull’s co-leader strategy under spotlight at Tour de France

The reconciliation apparently smooths over any cracks in a leadership duo that’s been under the spotlight since way before this Tour de France.

Lipowitz and Evenepoel have both finished third behind Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard at the Tour: Evenepoel with Quick-Step in 2024, Lipowitz with Red Bull in 2025.

Evenepoel’s multi-million-dollar move to the ambitious German team this winter threw an awkward dynamic in the mix.

How he and Lipowitz would coordinate (or not) was a Tour de France subplot that bubbled to the surface when Pogačar blew everybody’s legs off in the Pyrénées.

Team CEO Ralph Denk downplayed any tension when he spoke Thursday night on the Inside Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe podcast.

“There was a bit of disagreement and a language barrier, but it happened in the heat of the moment,” Denk said. “It was not a big thing.

“I saw them afterward and they had spoken about it. They sat together at dinner and were laughing. The subject is being made much bigger than it really was,” Denk said.

Evenepoel and Red Bull DS Zak Dempster both separately followed up in interviews ahead of stage 7: Remco’s outburst was the product of a racing red-mist, not a leadership rift.

“Everything has been cleared up,” Evenepoel told Het Laatste Nieuws on Friday. “What happened yesterday is in the past. We can look forward again.”

Evenepoel is currently fourth behind Pogačar at 3:30, just 3 seconds off the podium. Lipowitz is seventh at 4:00.

Their cohesion might not be put to another serious test until the race reaches the Vosges next weekend.
