Jaylen Brown‘s trade to the Philadelphia 76ers has brought an “abrupt” end to the nine years that the new Sixers player and Jayson Tatum spent together with the Boston Celtics.

Between the two of them, they led Boston to one NBA championship, two appearances in the Finals, two Eastern Conference titles, 74 playoff wins, and 16 playoff series victories.

Tatum, who has never played in the NBA without Jaylen Brown by his side, will take on more responsibility than ever next season, and his performance will be key to determining how Brown’s trade is viewed in the future—not to mention Boston’s championship prospects in the coming years.

Jayson Tatum broke his silence following Jaylen Brown’s trade and spoke about how he’s approaching his first season without his former teammate: “To be honest, it’s weird. It’s weird. You play on a team for nine years with someone with whom I was lucky enough to reach the Finals twice, win a championship, and push each other to become the players we are today.”

“The NBA is an incredible business. It’s an incredible job. But this business has its downsides and moments like this, when you feel like you’re going to keep playing on the same team with someone because it’s the only thing you know. And then suddenly, one day, you find out they’re no longer on your team. We’re all human. We feel those emotions. Arriving at the facility and realizing you have different teammates, and that someone with whom—essentially—you’ve gone to war is now on another team…,” he said in remarks reported by ‘Sports Illustrated’.

Jayson Tatum emphasized that “that makes you appreciate the moments and the time we shared. Obviously, it all ended abruptly, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t an extremely successful era. He gave the city and the organization some magnificent years.

”Jayson Tatum, who joined the Celtics as the No. 3 pick in the 2017 draft, has already said goodbye to key players such as Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, Al Horford, and Jaylen Brown during his time in Boston.

Jaylen Brown, who was traded by the Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George and future draft picks, admitted to feeling “excited and disappointed” following the deal that brought his 10-year stint in Boston to an end.

The former Celtic opened up about his trade to the Sixers during a live Twitch stream: “Boston packed my bags, folks. Pack up and goodbye, buddy. I’m out of here.”

“I have to admit that I’m still processing it all. It’s a mix of excitement and disappointment; there are so many emotions all at once… But I’m also looking forward to seeing what happens,” said the player who was considered “too smart” to succeed in the NBA.

Jaylen Brown also opened up about the Celtics’ decision to use him as a bargaining chip in the trade market: “It has to be said that, without a doubt, a message was sent, and that message was received. I didn’t like the level of respect shown during this process at all. I think there was a certain lack of respect. It seems to me that everything was going well until, suddenly, things took a turn for the worse.”

Jaylen Brown admitted, “I just wish they had explained the additional details of the situation to me… Because if they had explained those details to me, I think I would have understood. I thought I had earned enough respect to receive that explanation. But obviously, I was wrong. That’s life; you have to move on.”

“One thing I wish is that my integrity and character hadn’t been attacked so much throughout this whole process,” complained the Marietta, Georgia, native.
