The comedy actor rose to prominence with the character, a satire of appropriated street culture, as part of comedy series The 11 O’Clock Show in 1998. He would conduct interviews with unsuspecting guests who were left purplexed by his line of questioning and slang terms.

The popularity of the character led to several solo series in the 2000s, as well as the 2002 movie Ali G In Da House and a starring role in Madonna’s ‘Music’ video. Cohen has revived the character sporadically in recent years, but has now reportedly prepared a new film project.

The InSneider newsletter addressed previous reports that an Ali G movie had been in the works since before the 2023 Hollywood strikes. “I’m hearing that such a project has now been completed,” he wrote. “It’s unclear whether the new Ali G movie is being shopped to buyers right now or if it already has a home, but it’s my understanding that it’s in the can.”

As to the content of the film, he continued: “Cohen was reportedly spotted in character in and around Oxfordshire, England, in July and September of 2025, though I believe Ali G also spends a good deal of time in the circus that is America in this mysterious new project, which remains untitled and has no release date as of now.”

Cohen’s representatives declined to comment on the report, nor has the actor addressed the news publicly at this point.

Ali G launched Cohen’s career as an actor, leading to him having two huge movie hits in the 2000s with similarly-themed characters Borat and Bruno. He would also go into dramatic acting, appearing in movies such as Les Miserables, Hugo, and Sweeney Todd. Last year he was revealed as the villain Mephisto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He was recently the lead of the fantasy comedy Ladies First, playing a male chauvinist transported to a world where women hold societal power. The trailer for the movie confused fans, one of whom described as “Borat but make it feminism”.
