Wildfire rages in eastern Spain, forcing hundreds to flee

A wildfire in Castellon, eastern Spain, forces 500 evacuations as firefighters and aircraft battle flames spreading across the Valencia region.

A wildfire in Castellon, in Spain’s Valencia region, has forced the evacuation of around 500 residents as firefighters battle flames across rugged terrain.

The video shows fire-fighting planes dropping water over burning hills, while ground crews work to contain the blaze near roads, vehicles and residential areas. Thick smoke rises over the landscape as crews move between hotspots and burnt ground.

The fire broke out on Sunday afternoon in Soneja, prompting a large emergency response.

Authorities say similar wildfires have affected parts of southern Europe, including Portugal and Greece, as firefighters continue to tackle multiple outbreaks.
