At this point I’ve made my case for the titular concept so often, someone’s about to give me the ol’ “stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen” talk. And yet, here I am, asking once again to be heard on a matter I genuinely think is a clever and stylish hack, and claim ownership over (rightfully or not).

What I’m referring to here is running shorts that can masquerade as swim trunks and even regular — if very short — shorts. Because, similar to how I feel about tennis skirts, I find that a short running short is flattering on anyone, with any body type, for how it accentuates thighs to look athletic and muscular — be they or not. And my current favorite pair comes from Nike.

In this textured seersucker fabric, these lined little pants are far more interesting visually than your average flimsy boxer style. And with its its total of three zip pockets (one on each side, plus one back pocket), this pair has got a whole lotta storage space for such a small amount of material.

Equal parts elastic, durable, lightweight, and easy on the eyes, Nike’s 5-inchers aren’t limited to the track or treadmill. Due to its sweat-attuned moisture absorption capabilities, the briefs in question are great for the pool too, and will effortlessly hold their own as the bottom half of a hot day’s outfit.

Will this fly at the office? Depends on the office. They sure are great for those days where you’re in and out of the water, in-between car, beach, and store though. Let alone how well they hold up as what they’re intended for: running!

Especially during this period of record temperatures here in Berlin, I’ve been wearing regularly, for every which purpose. And I feel both hotter and less hot because of them, if you know what I mean…
