Local primary school kids performed ‘Times Like These’ for the Foo Fighters ahead of their shows at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium last week.

Dave Grohl and co. are currently on the road for their European ‘Take Cover’ tour, which comes in support of their brand new album ‘Your Favorite Toy‘. The dates kicked off at the huge Liverpool venue last week, with the first show taking place on Thursday (June 25) and the second being held on Saturday (27).

Ahead of the opening night, children from the Anfield Road Primary School – in a group called The Bell Tower Beats – came together at the stadium to perform for the band, playing the Foo’s hit song ‘Times Like These’.

As seen in footage shared on the band’s official Instagram account, the children are seen standing on the stage at the stadium, and begin by playing the song’s melody on ukuleles before singing it to the Foo Fighters and a few members of the crew.

A couple of the kids play other instruments including the bass and the tambourine, while their teacher stands at the front and leads the way while playing an acoustic guitar. At various moments in the video, Grohl is seen smiling while sitting in the standing area of the venue.

“Ahead of our shows in Liverpool, we were treated to a very special performance from The Bell Tower Beats of @anfieldroadprimary and THEY ROCKED ANFIELD STADIUM!!!” wrote Foo Fighters on Instagram.

“Thank you for braving the heat and for sharing your talents,” the caption added, making reference to the heatwave that affected the UK and much of Europe throughout last week.

NME caught their first gig in Liverpool and gave it a glowing four-star review, which read: “That laid-back rock club vibe is what makes this work. Foos don’t have the bells, whistles, pyro, or blockbuster special effects of other standard stadium acts, just tunes and banter.”

“Who’d have thought that ‘This Is A Call’, ‘For All the Cows’ and ‘Big Me’ – written for their 1995 debut and for sweaty little rooms – would land like Queen classics on this pitch?” it added.

At the second night, Foos paid homage to The Beatles in their hometown by breaking out a cover of ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’.

The cover came as Grohl is friends with Paul McCartney, has previously shared that the music legend gave his daughter her very first piano lesson, and also joined Macca on stage at Glastonbury 2022 to cover The Beatles’ ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ and Wings’ ‘Band On The Run’.

As well as more headline stadium shows, Foos will also make various festival appearances at Mad Cool, NOS Alive and more. Support across various dates will include Royel Otis, Inhaler, IDLES, Otoboke Beaver, Fat Dog and Die Spitz. Get any remaining tickets here.

Their latest album, ‘Your Favorite Toy’, dropped in April and got three and a half stars from NME. “‘Your Favorite Toy’ is a few more tracks of that depth away from being the most vital Foo Fighters record since 1997’s ‘The Colour and the Shape’,” the review read. “For now, at least, they have remembered that no-frills punk, played fast and loud, suits them much better than middle-of-the-road dad-rock.”
