‘505’ was first released as the closing track on Arctic Monkeys’ second album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ in 2007. The song, written by Alex Turner, has long been a fan favourite, and became one of the band’s biggest streaming hits after going viral on TikTok in 2022.

Speaking to NME at the time, Turner reflected on the song finding a new audience online. “The song’s become something else now,” he said. “It’s gone somewhere else. It’s amazing when something comes back in that way, or reaches people who weren’t there the first time around.”

The song has also been a regular part of Arctic Monkeys’ live sets for years, often appearing as a dramatic set closer. Miles Kane, who played guitar on the original recording, joined the band for a version of ‘505’ during their run of London Emirates Stadium shows in 2023.

Arctic Monkeys last released an album with 2022’s ‘The Car’. In a five-star review, NME called it “a summary of the band’s story so far”, adding: “The car keeps speeding forward, but they’ve not forgotten what they’re leaving behind.”

They did, however, return earlier this year with ‘Opening Night’, which appeared on the War Child charity album ‘Help(2)’.
