The fifth and final Jackass movie release is in cinemas today, and at the movie’s premiere a drone display paid tribute to various classic moments in the franchise. This included the iconic Jackass emblem of a skull and two crutches, Johnny Knoxville being hit by a giant hand, a portable toilet exploding, and a man bent over with the word “FART” written above him, with fireworks depicting the lit gas. Originally running for just three seasons between 2000 and 2001, Jackass featured a regular crew of friends performing physically dangerous, comedic, or grotesque stunts. The appeal of the show led to the rise of castmembers such as Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O, and five movies starting with 2002’s Jackass The Movie.

There have also been four straight-to-video alternative cuts for each film, the spin-off Bad Grandpa, and various TV specials. Members of the Jackass crew have starred in their own series, such as Viva La Bam (starring Bam Margera), and Wildboyz, a nature-focused show starring Steve-O and Chris Pontius.

NME gave Jackass: First And Last a three-star review, concluding: “With ‘My Way’ playing, Knoxville, the leader of these merry pranksters, looks misty-eyed as he’s confronted by the fact this chapter of his life is over. As the film takes a bow with one last gross-out moment – a foul-smelling remix on Twister – your eyes will be watering too.

Jackass regular Bam Margera also returned to the franchise via archive footage after missing out on the fourth film due to a legal disagreement with the creators. Last year, Margera said in an interview: “You couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another Jackass with them. The damage has been done.”
