It’s June, but you can still ski in Canada.

Thanks to one of the snowiest winters in the resort’s history, Banff Sunshine in Alberta, Canada, has reopened its slopes for summer skiing. From June 20 to July 5, guests can enjoy summer laps on the resort’s leftover snowpack, with access to select terrain and an opportunity to combine skiing with sunny skies and warm temperatures.

Banff Sunshine plans to operate its Strawberry Express and Standish Express lifts for the duration of the summer ski period as snow conditions permit. The resort’s gondola will also be open. Lifts will spin from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. seven days a week, giving skiers the time they need to enjoy elusive mid-summer slush laps in North America.

For freestyle fans, Banff Sunshine offers three terrain parks filled with various jib features to satisfy that park itch.

This past winter, the resort experienced its second snowiest season on record. A total of 404 inches (1,025 centimeters) of snow fell on the resort during the 2025-26 season, massively exceeding its average snowfall of 242 inches (614 centimeters). The resort ended its winter season on May 18, but its deep snowpack at higher elevations has allowed for over two weeks of summer skiing.

“We got to the end of our ski season and we’re looking around and we said ‘Holy mackerel moly, we still have a ton of snow left.’ It is a certainty that we’ll be able to open for summer skiing,” Kendra Scurfield, the vice president of brand and communications at Banff Sunshine Village, said in a CTV News article.

In 2022, Banff Sunshine opened for summer skiing for just six days. It has been 35 years since the resort had a proper extended summer skiing period, making this season’s 16-day period a rarity. For skiers who have dreamed of mid-summer laps in North America, Banff Sunshine’s extended season offers a rare opportunity to do just that.

Access to Banff Sunshine’s slopes is free for 2026-27 Sunshine Season Pass holders, Ski Big3 Season Pass holders, Rocky Mountain Passport, and guests staying at Sunshine Mountain Lodge, Banff’s only ski-in ski-out hotel. In addition, 2026-27 Midweek Pass Holders can access the slopes Monday through Thursday. Guests with 2025-26 Sunshine Season Passes, SkiBig3 passes, or Rocky Mountain Passports, will receive a 50% discount on summer skiing lift tickets. 2025-26 and 2026-27 IKON and Mountain Collective passes will also receive 50% off.

Lift tickets purchased at the resort’s windows will be CAD 80 (USD 56.48) for adults, CAD 50 (USD 35.30) for youth and seniors, and CAD 30 (USD 21.18) for children ages 6-12. Kids under five ski free.

Banff Sunshine will continue to provide conditions updates on its website as well as on its social media platforms.
