- WNBA ‘An honor to play here’: Paige Bueckers reflects on Kobe Bryant’s legacy in LA
Caitlin Clark’s struggles with the Indiana Fever remain one of the biggest stories in the WNBA, but Breanna Stewart’s heated exchange with her own coach has added a fresh layer to the debate around double standards.
The Fever suffered another difficult night against the New York Liberty, letting a 12-point second-half lead slip away in an 83-75 defeat. Clark finished with 10 points and nine assists, but shot 4 of 14 from the field as Indiana’s offense stalled late.
It was another reminder that the Fever are still searching for rhythm, chemistry and late game clarity. Clark’s every move continues to be examined, especially after her previous sideline disagreement with coach Stephanie White became a national talking point.
But in the same game, Stewart was seen in an animated exchange with a Liberty coach, prompting fans to question whether the reaction would match the scrutiny Clark received.
Why Stewart’s argument sparked a backlash
Basketball content creator Venom highlighted the difference in coverage and directly compared the Stewart moment to the reaction Clark faced.
“Caitlin Clark had a sideline spat with Stephanie White, and they weaponized the entire WNBA media against her. Y’all remember that, right? Clark was called the diva, unculturable…” Venom said.
He then questioned whether Stewart would be judged the same way.
“So, is this going to be blown out of proportion? Is Breanna Stewart going to be called a diva? Is Breanna Stewart going to be called uncoachable? I wanna say, ay keep the same energy,” Venom added.
That became the core of the argument online. Clark’s frustration was framed by some as a sign of deeper trouble, while Stewart’s was more likely to be viewed as competitive fire from a proven champion.
Fever’s problems are still impossible to ignore
The Stewart debate does not erase what is happening in Indiana.
Clark is averaging only 12.3 points on 28 percent shooting from the field and 27.3 percent from three over her last four games, numbers that have intensified concern around the Fever’s offensive fit.
One fan summed up the frustration by writing: “Caitlin Clark bad games legit be the worst display of basketball ever.”
Another argued that Indiana’s issues go beyond one player: “Indiana Fever have serious chemistry issues.”
