Developer Frogwares’ Lovecraftian horror sequel, The Sinking City 2, is launching 18th August on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, an hour-long The Sinking City 2 demo is now available on Steam.

The Sinking City 2, which follows occult investigator Calvin Rafferty as he’s drawn to the city of Arkham in the 1920s, is a standalone sequel and does not follow on from the events of the first game.

While the original leaned into Frogwares’ detective game roots, the sequel shifts the focus to horror. And though you can expect narrative and survival to play more prominent roles, detective work remains. This time, however, it’s optional. Frogwares says you can choose to tackle cases, solve puzzles and start your own investigations if you want to learn more about the world.

The Sinking City 2 has been in the works since January 2023. With most of the team based in Ukraine, however, development has been impacted by Russia’s continued invasion. “Making games is already chaotic and unpredictable, so having a war going on at the same time adds a layer of immense chaos,” said Frogwares’ head of publishing, Sergiy Oganesyan.

“Even during the week we finally picked a release date internally as a team, our feelings of joy and relief were quickly dampened when, that very Sunday, cities across the country came under some of the worst attacks since the start of the war. We’re beyond proud and in awe of how we’ve come together through all of this, and we’re happy to have finally brought the game to a point where we can see its release on the horizon,” he added.
