As the heat of summer quickly approaches, one ski area in Colorado is planning to cool things down and reopen for a weekend of hike-to June skiing. On June 12-13, Cuchara Mountain Park will host its first-ever Summer Slush Slab event featuring two days of skiing and snowboarding. Even after an average season, the ski area managed to farm enough snow to offer guests the chance to hike for some turns under the hot June sun.
The ski area recently announced the exciting news on its social media and shared a brief weekend schedule. Starting on Friday, June 12, for just $10, skiers and riders can get some laps during an open session beginning around 1 p.m. Then, on Saturday, for $20, participants can ride in a terrain park competition with a few small features to throw down on. To end things, another event or open session is possible on Sunday if the weather and snow cooperate.

Cuchara Mountain Park is a non-profit, outdoor recreation area with endless possibilities for year-round activities and adventures. Located in southern Colorado, in Huerfano County, the ski slopes there have seen significant changes since its inception in the early ‘80’s, when they were originally known as Panadero Ski Area. It closed in 2000, and after 17 years of dormancy, the grounds finally began receiving much-needed restoration work thanks to the Cuchara Foundation and the non-profit Panadero Ski Corporation. Now, this past season on January 17, 2026, for the first time in over 25 years, Cuchara Ski Area reopened to lift-accessed riding thanks to upgrades done to Chair 4.
