- Real Madrid. Vinícius Jr. raves about Lamine Yamal: “He could win the World Cup all by himself”
- Real Madrid. Vinicius: “I’m not in a hurry to renew my contract with Real Madrid”
The future of Vinícius Jr. is one of the key decisions Real Madrid must make as it shapes its new project, once the presidential elections are over and Florentino Pérez can continue in charge if he defeats Enrique Riquelme.
The Brazilian’s contract renewal is currently on hold, and according to what Josep Pedrerol revealed on the latest edition of El Chiringuito, it does not look easy for an agreement to be reached. Real Madrid have reportedly made a lower renewal offer to the player, which, if not accepted, could lead to his departure this very summer, before he could leave for free next season.
“What’s happening here is that Real Madrid have made Vinicius a renewal offer, but deep down I think they’re not that eager for him to renew. There are people at the club who don’t see the extension as so clear-cut. Florentino is the one who supports the renewal the most, he’s a fan of Vinicius and would renew him. But within Madridismo, a six-year extension for Vinicius wouldn’t be understood at this moment. In recent months he’s been jeered at the Bernabéu and the atmosphere has changed, there’s a growing disconnect,” he said.
“If Florentino comes out during the campaign saying he’s going to renew Vinicius for five years, it doesn’t win votes—if anything, it loses them. He’ll renew if he accepts reduced terms, and if not, he’ll leave. But I think the fans will understand if Real Madrid don’t renew him, even if they lose the chance to sell him,” he added.
Florentino Pérez’s stance and Vinícius’ view
The Real Madrid president was recently asked about Vinícius’ renewal and shared his opinion in an interview with TVE. “I don’t know if he will renew. If you ask my opinion, I want him to stay at Real Madrid because he’s one of the best players in the world,” he said.
For now, the player does not seem willing to accept the club’s offer and is willing to wait. “I’m not in a hurry to renew my contract. I have a deal until 2027, so there’s still plenty to discuss with Madrid—and Madrid with us. I’ve never imagined myself leaving Real Madrid. I enjoy every minute here because it’s the club of my dreams. I’m now one of the captains, and that’s very important. I want to stay here my whole life. The president trusts me and I trust him. We’ll have to wait,” he said.
