Skiing is often associated with being expensive and luxurious, and nowhere is that luxury more apparent than at the world’s best Michelin star ski resorts. Enjoying a nice dinner after a long day on the mountain is special, and at some ski resorts, that means dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Chef’s Pencil started as an online cookbook where professional chefs share their favorite recipes. It has become a valuable resource for professional chef recipes, professional cooking advice, and news from the culinary industry. Chef’s Pencil was started by Sydney-based Chef Paul Hegeman. Chef’s Pencil specifically researched to identify the ski resorts (specialized in alpine or cross-country skiing) and nearby mountain destinations within 10 miles of a ski area that boast the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants globally.

Why Aspen Is the Only U.S. Michelin Star Ski Resort

Bosq is located in Aspen, Colorado, a town known for being bougie and attracting celebrities and the socialite millionaires. The restaurant is led by Chef Barclay Dodge, an Aspen native who honed his culinary skills at local restaurants as a teenager. He left Aspen and went on to work at Michelin-starred restaurants outside the United States and at the legendary El Bulli in Spain, where he learned from the masters of modern gastronomy. Chef Barclay returned to Aspen and sources ingredients and products locally, guided by the philosophy that every dish reflects the land, the culture, and the stories that brought them to Aspen.

The one-star Michelin 2025-26 menu featured bison tartare, A5 Wagyu striploin, Nordic oscietra caviar, and braised oxtail celeriac. Guests have the option to choose from a 5-course “Choose Your Own” tasting menu or indulge in the Chef’s Choice 9+ course tasting menu—each menu is an ever-changing reflection of the season’s best. Out of all the ski resorts in the United States, only Bosq made the list of U.S. ski resorts.

Andermatt, Switzerland, is a small town in the heart of the Alps that mixes destination skiing with luxury hotels and top-tier dining. It features three Michelin-starred restaurants: IGNIV by Andreas Caminda, The Japanese Restaurant, and the Japanese at Gütsch.

The two Michelin-starred restaurant IGNIV by Andreas Caminada is led by the top chef from Graubünden, and its concept is centered on comfort and deliberate sharing. That concept walks away from traditional menus with appetizers, main courses, and desserts. The restaurant boasts up to 30 dishes designed for guests to share in a fine-dining sharing concept. The experience centers on multiple beautifully presented dishes meant for the table, combining modern European techniques with Alpine influences. Expect highly seasonal ingredients, polished service, and a creative, social tasting format rather than a traditional progression of courses.

Executive Chefs Dominik Sato and Fabio Toffolon, along with their team, focus on using the highest-quality ingredients and adding a special Japanese touch. Courchevel: The World’s #1 Michelin Star Ski Resort

Leading the pack with a staggering seven Michelin-starred restaurants, Courchevel is the crown jewel of Alpine dining, combining elite skiing with unmatched culinary excellence in the French Alps.

It is no surprise that France leads the list of countries with the most Michelin-starred restaurants. The Michelin Guide began in 1900 in France, was awarded stars in 1926, and later expanded to include other countries. Europe as a whole leads the list of regions with the most Michelin-starred restaurants, while the United States and Japan miss the mark.

Capri is Zermatt’s most expensive Michelin-starred restaurant, with its most exclusive tasting menu priced at 280 CHF ($355). On the other hand, the most affordable tasting menu is at Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni, priced at 150 CHF ($190).

Every skier knows that dining at a ski resort can be expensive. It seems that grabbing a cheeseburger for less than $20 at a resort is now a thing of the past. However, dining at these Michelin restaurants takes the price point to another level. For those who are looking for the best dining options where cost is not an option, these ski resort restaurants are geared toward you.

Dining at a Michelin restaurant does not mean that you have to break the bank to eat there. There are options at ski resorts that offer Michelin-starred culinary experiences that won’t disappoint. There are affordable Michelin-starred restaurants at ski resorts that offer dining options under $100. That price point is a very good deal when the cost of a frozen burger patty, pre-cut frozen fries, and a bottle of water at the lodge can easily exceed $40.

Every skier looks forward to the feeling of taking their ski boots off after being on the slopes, grabbing a nice beverage, and sitting down to a tasty meal. While you’ll have to travel to Europe to experience most of the Michelin-starred restaurants near ski resorts, it is not unlikely. Many Americans seek more affordable skiing options, with lift ticket prices in the U.S. breaking $300, and many choosing to travel to Europe for lower costs instead of staying in the U.S. If you enjoy a great meal after a day on the mountain or are just a foodie who loves trying out amazing food, these Michelin restaurants at ski resorts should be on your list.
