Formula One driver Max Verstappen has today confirmed a shock entry in the 2027 Nürburgring 24hrs by agreeing to race the fan-favourite Dacia Logan saloon.
Following his heroics in this year’s marathon where he was denied victory following a driveshaft problem on his Mercedes-AMG GT3, the four-time Formula One world champion has now committed to racing one of the slowest but most reliable cars on the grid.
Reports suggest the Dacia Logan’s 360-degree spin on the ‘Karussel’ during this year’s race really ‘sealed the deal’ for Verstappen, having performed a similar manoeuvre himself at this year’s Miami GP.
“Max, as we all know, just loves racing in whatever discipline, loves a good challenge, and perhaps most crucially, really bloody hates this year’s Formula One regulations,” a source close to the F1 champ said.
“He recently discovered he’s actually quite brilliant at this whole ‘endurance’ thing, almost single-handedly winning the damn thing outright on his first ever go.
“Now he’s set himself a proper challenge by agreeing to race a painfully slow but heroically cool Romanian saloon with less horsepower than one of his team-radio tantrums. Do not be surprised if he manages to put this thing on pole and take a maiden win.
“Eat that, super clipping,” the source added.
“It’ll be a super challenge, for sure,” Verstappen said, “but really anything other than Formula One would be nice. It’s a ******* joke that I have to ******* drive that absolute piece of ****,” he later said. “******* ******* **** of a **** car. Honestly.”
