Take a ‘long snooze’ in South Korea: Is this the world’s best hotel bed?

The ‘Curator Suite 1503’ at RYSE, Autograph Collection in Seoul is home to an enormous extra-long bed, which stretches the near length of the room.
“In the land of giants” may sound like the start of a fairytale, but what if you could actually sleep like one?

At South Korea’s RYSE, Autograph Collection hotel in Hongdae, Seoul, the Curator Suite 1503 is challenging the “conventional notions of accommodation” with an enormous extra-long bed, nearly stretching across the entire room.
Created in collaboration with MSCHF, a Brooklyn-based art collective, the art installation-style suite includes “BED2525”, designed under the concept of a “long bed for long sleep in the far future”.
The idea came about from the apparent need for larger-scale, more appropriately sized accommodations as humans continue to grow taller with each generation and in readiness for when giants may once again walk the Earth.
While the jury is out on how soon supersized creatures may make a comeback, the oversized bed at this Seoul stay looks like it would take several housekeeping battalions to change the sheets.
In one of his video reviews, travel influencer Drew Falchook (@imdrewdoes) also asks a very valid question: “Where did they find this mattress?”
Alongside the specialised construction that took place to accommodate the bed – large enough to comfortably sleep an entire family, despite a maximum occupancy of four – the Curator Suite also showcases a selection of MSCHF art and design pieces.
This includes the viral, hyperrealistic Big Red Boots, inspired by the cartoonishly sized shoes worn by the protagonist in the Astro Boy anime franchise.
Other works in the mini art gallery include paintings from MSCHF’s Botched Masters series which reimagines classical pieces through intentionally warped reproductions.
The walls are also decorated with distorted Damien Hirst “Spots”. The art collective sliced 108 technicolour spots into individual framed pieces, allowing visitors to choose the colour they want, and if the price is right, take a Spot home with them.
For travellers in Seoul on the look out for a more conventional stay, RYSE’s suite 1503 may not be the obvious choice. But for the curious, perks of the suite include breakfast for two, and amenities such as a boombox, smart television and facial masks.
Part of Marriott, the group describes the boutique hotel as “visionary”, which boasts a range of rooms, including the Director Suite, Producer Suite, Artist Suite and Executive Producer Suite.
Until 31 August this year, Disney fans can also opt for the “Collect Package”, which includes various merchandise, such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse plushes, a Disney Store Seoul gift set, a branded tote bag and an in-store Disney coupon.
